Question From richie13 on ford escort wiring diagrm

i have a u.k ford escort. my blower stopped workin. i changed the switch in the dashboard and now think it might be the relay. i dont have a wiring diagram. can any one help as its really cold now!

Response From DanD Top Rated Answer

I don’t have anything on the UK Escort, but if it’s anything like its north American cousin have a look at the blower motor resistor. You should find it in the heaters air box under the dash, also the main connection at the motor itself is known for burning causing a bad connection.
Dan.
Here’s what a generic resistor looks like, yours may not look exactly the same but close.

93 Ford Escort Cooling Fan

Question From danastanley on 93 Ford Escort Cooling Fan

<
Some IDIOT direct wired the cooling fan and placed a toggle switch (that gets too freakin' hot) under the steering column.
I have not tried to trace the wiring or really tried to figure out how to fix this stupid idiotic lazy solution because I haven't been sure where to start. Today I got a membership to Alldata - so now I'll be able to print out how its supposed to be, but I'm curious about 'typical' direct wiring. When someone direct wires something, is it typical to run a new piece of wire and leave the original wiring intact, or would they have to splice (CUT) into the original wires to do a direct wire? I know NOTHING about electricity, so I'm trying to prepare for what I'm gettin' myself into.

Dana

Response From nickwarner

It really depends on who did it. But typically you cut into the power wire at the fan to splice in the wire coming from the toggle switch. You will want to get some crimp connectors that have heat shrink on them when you go to put it back to original. After crimping it down you then use a lighter on it and the coating shrinks down and seals it from moisture that will corrode and cause more trouble later. Hopefully all he did was jump power either directly at the battery or fuse box, and the wire at the fan is the only one you need to splice. Then its time to start testing. Begin with the fuse box, making sure you have power and the fuse is good. You will want a 12v test light for this job, and they are dirt cheap. If you look at a fuse from the top, you see a number in the middle and to each side of it a little hole that shows a spot of metal under the plastic. Hook the ground clamp of your test light to the battery ground terminal and then touch the probe to each side of that fuse one at a time. You will want the key in the run position when doing this. It should light your tester on both sides of the fuse. If it only lights on one side, you know the fuse is junk. If you have power and good fuse, you need to move on to the relay. Not all of those pins for the cooling fan relay should have power. I'm actually trying to figure out how to explain to you how to test a relay but I don't know how to post up pics and diagrams like Hammer, Tom and the others do. I'm sure they'll be chiming in here though.

Response From re-tired Top Rated Answer

You mean one of these Rick :

Wiring relay through the ground...........................

Response From Hammer Time

#86 is the power to run the relay itself. #87 is connected to the fan. #30 is the feed power waiting to be connected to #87 to energize the fan. #85 is the trigger ground that is used to turn the relay on and off. In the case of the fan, that goes to the PCM so the PCM can control the fan. Wiring it this way sends the high current draw directly to the fan without having to pass through a switch that isn't designed to carry that much load.

Response From nickwarner

nice pic RT. Thats exactly what I was hoping for

Response From Guest Top Rated Answer

still looking if you come up with any thing else let me know thank a lot.

Response From Double J

stupid as this sounds...i had a guy recently that had no blower or power windows on his mitsubishi,he was monkeying around with stuff trying to fix god knows what....he stated he put windows down, they stopped working,he jumper wired them.put them up,then the other stuff happened....he triedrelays.etc...said all fuses were ok,which they were...

turned out he took out a 10 amp fuse that feeds both relays and put it back in a different spot,so there was no fuse in the place for the blower and window relays...i installed a fuse, everything worked.
sure its not the case here...but just wanted to throw it out while i'm thinking here.

what resistor did you replace????
