Question From rickyr on 99 ford f 150

blend door actuator is not working properly on ford f 150. i need a cut to change. can you help?

Response From Hammer Time

i need a cut to change

What do you need?

Response From rickyr

i need to know how to remove the blend door actuator

Response From Hammer Time

Unplug the wire and remove the two screws.

Response From rickyr

where is it and how do you get to it?

Response From Hammer Time

Response From rickyr

How many blend door actuators are there on a Ford F150? And how long should it take an experienced mechanic to change both? (If there are 2)

Response From Hammer Time

There is only one electric one and it's for the blend door. The flat rate on it is 1.1 hours.

Response From Loren Champlain Sr Top Rated Answer

Darned Mitchell guide. Made a liar out of me.

Response From Hammer Time

There are 3 other vacuum actuators but they have nothing to do with the blend door.

Response From rickyr

This is my situation. My husband took his 99 f150 to ford dealership to fix blend door or actuator whichever the case, and was given an estimate of up to $350. Mechanic calls this evening and says that both actuators were out and need to be replaced. Would take him better than half a day to replace at a cost of $618. Claims Parts are like $200. Does this sound right?

Response From Hammer Time

I'd ask for a few more details about the job. Find out specifically which actuators it needs and what problem they are correcting.

Response From Loren Champlain Sr

.8 hrs to 4.9 hrs. depending on which one. (there are up to four actuators)

Locate ECU on a FORD F150 truck

Question From joblake on Locate ECU on a FORD F150 truck

Does anybody know where the ECU is on a ford f150 2003?

Response From DanD

If you mean the PCM (power-train control module) it’s on the right inner fender near the firewall under the hood.
Dan.

Response From joblake

Is that what controls all the electrical stuff?
Every now and then when it rains my heater motor runs even though the car is off. I end up with a dead battery

Response From joblake

I guess what I'm looking for is a GEM

Response From DanD

The only description I have for the GEM is “behind left side of dash”
Dan.

Response From joblake

that's where it is.
I've taken it out....taken it apart....it does have moisture in there. I've cleaned it and am putting it back. Wish me luck.

Response From joblake

That fixed it!!!
I've had this problem for 4 years!
Whew!

Response From DanD Top Rated Answer

Where’s the water coming from would be my next concern.
Dan.

Response From joblake

that's my next focus.
From the looks of the GEM (what I thought was an ECU), the water seems to have traveled down the wire harnesses and worked its way into the guts of this contraption.
This problem happens when the truck is just sitting out there in the rain which means that it's not coming from under the chassis. I think the water is getting in through those vent holes that are on either side of the windshield wipers.
I've still got the dashboard apart so tomorrow I'm going to squirt a hose in that area and see where the water goes.

Never a dull moment.

Response From Tom Greenleaf

Just to note: Water can get in thru windshield seal. If you get water with a hose test let it dry and seal just the windshield with painter's tape and try it again. That would prove it if it stopped, T

Response From joblake

unfortunately my hose test was inconclusive. I couldn't get any water at all to show up inside the truck yet I know that it can as evidenced by the moisture in the GEM.

Question From isiahcook on ford f 150

my 1990 ford f150 will not start no pulse to injectors will start if i spray carb cleaner in intake please help!!!! yes i have a check engine light during cranking

Response From Tom Greenleaf

Don't worry about the check engine light when cranking as it's probably just a "bulb check" mode.

Can you hear the fuel pump buzzing? -- Then shut off with just ignition in run position?

How did you determine that the fuel injectors were not working? Sorry for all the questions but it could help.

A biggie with Fords is the relays. Use the relay for A/C if equipped and same part # to switch around for testing. Keep us posted, T

Response From Tom Greenleaf

I could be wrong but I don't think that module on distributor has anything to do with fuel delivery, T
