92 Dodge Dynasty No AC during acceleration

Question From Guest on 92 Dodge Dynasty No AC during acceleration

I recently purchased a 92 Dodge Dynasty with a 3.3 V6 and during heavier acceleration, the AC cuts out. Sound like a vaccum cut out. Air blows somewhere else but not through the vents. Easing up on the accelerator, the air returns back to normal.

Response From Tom Greenleaf Top Rated Answer

Many vehicles use engine manifold vacuum to change and hold actuator doors in position and when vacuum isn't available or leaking thru a hose or storage can of sorts they will default to "defrost'' ducts till vacuum is available again which is greater at idle, low speed and load or decellerating.

You should look for vacuum leaks underhood as the likely source of this problem,

Response From Guest

Thank you very much for the info. I will be checking all the vacuum lines and connectors this weekend.

Response From way2old

Somewhere in the syatem will be a check valve. It holds vacuum as Tom described under conditions of low engine vacuum, such as acceleration. Click on this link for a generic picture of one.

Response From Guest Top Rated Answer

Yes, I installed a used computer on my 1992 dodge
I believe the the check engine light is on. Thanks for coming back to me on this problem.

Response From Hammer Time

There is no way of knowing if you even have the right computer installed. If the check engine light is on, then the best place to start is reading the stored codes.

77
Speed control power relay circuit.

To call up codes, cycle ignition switch on, off, on, off and on within 5 seconds. Stored codes will be indicated by flashes of the power loss/check engine lamp. The codes will be indicated as two digit numbers, with a four second pause between codes. An example of a code is as follows:

  • Power Loss/Check Engine Lamp illuminated for approximately 2 to 3 seconds as a bulb check, then turns off.
  • Lamp flashes 2 times, pauses, then flashes 6 times.
  • Lamp pauses for approximately 4 seconds.
  • Lamp flashes 3 times, pauses, then flashes 1 time.

  • This would indicate that code 26 and 31 are stored. The lamp will continue to flash until all stored codes have been displayed.
Once the lamp starts flashing the stored fault codes, it cannot be stopped. If a code is missed, the entire procedure must be repeated. The lamp will not indicate if oxygen feedback system is switching lean-rich or if idle motor system is operational. The lamp also cannot be used to perform actuation test mode, sensor test mode or engine running test mode.
After all fault codes have been displayed, then power loss/check engine lamp can be used to verify switch function. The lamp will turn on and off as the switch is turned on and off.

91 dodge dynasty shift cable and cable rod bent

Question From Dodge_Die_Nasty on 91 dodge dynasty shift cable and cable rod bent

    Here's the problem:

I fiddled around trying to get this cable rod re-attached to the shift lever and the angle isn't there. I suspect that this piece was designed as a straight section and when it got bent it came loose from the shifter. My plan is to unbend the rod and re-attach it. I would like some input before bending things, though!

Does anyone have a diagram, description or image of what the rod is supposed to look like? Any suggestions for a better plan or confirmation that I have the right idea? Just about anything would be helpful, thank you!

Dodge Dynasty Dies when Placed in Gear

Showing 2 out of 3 Posts | Show 1 Hidden Posts
Question From LDM312 on Dodge Dynasty Dies when Placed in Gear

I have a 1993 Dodge Dynasty V6 3.3 automatic transmission, 176000 miles that I have had for just one month. Yesterday the whole car started jerking a bit for the first few seconds when I backed it out of the garage but not real bad, then it smoothed out in just a few seconds and drove fine rest of the day.

Today when I back it out of the garage I put it into gear and it moved about 10 feet then started to jerk really hard about 3 or 4 time so I quickly took it out of gear. It hasn't moved since. Now when I put it in gear either Reverse, Drive or Low it's like the transmission is pulling the motor down and dies within just a couple of seconds as if the transmission or torque converter is almost locked up. Maybe it's stuck in two gears if that is possible, I don't know. I haven't crawled under it yet to look at the pan but I believe it is the A604 tranny. If I give it some gas it will still die but will jerk the whole car a couple times before it does. But even when it jerks it doesn't move. I let it warm up to get the fluid warm and that made no difference. Transmission fluid level is fine.

    Any ideas?

P.S. I search the forum but couldn't find anything on this.

    Response From tcwagner

    dear hapless dynasty owner,
I hate to tell you but likely one of two things has happened, neither good. One is that the trans. oil cooler in the radiator has clogged and burned up the transmission. This can be checked easily if you disconnect it and attach some hoses to it and flush it out with kerosene back and forth several times until it comes out clean. If you have an air compressor, you can buy six feet of clear flexible hose from Lowes for a refrigerator, clamp 5 feet of it on the output side and 1 foot on the input side and backflush it into a container. You do that by plugging the 1 ft. piece and holding up the 5 ft. piece and fill it with kerosene with a funnel. Then blow the compressor into the 5 ft piece and push the kerosene back through the cooler. If it is full of crud, probably the torque convertor is ruined. If it is just that, it is not the worst. If it cooked the transmission you will have to replace it all. Not cheap. I have had several of these type transmissions and I can't tell you anything encouraging about your problem. On My 1990 you could unbolt the computer on the firewall and pull it off and it would go in the limp in mode. That would tell you perhaps if the tranny was the problem it the thing works upon doing this. I am not a mechanic, just a guy that has had some problems like this. Maybe someone knows a simpler fix. I would drop the pan anyway and look for junk. If might want to invest in the napa rubber gasket for this unit, you can reuse it many times with no goop. Don't overtighten. If the fluid is really brown, try a fluid change. If it makes any difference, change it again in a few miles then change it a third time. It will replace all but one quart of the fluid for way less than a flush out without the risks. but if the cooler is full of crud, the torque converter (if it is the lock up type) has probably self destructed.
    Sorry,
    Terry

Response From LDM312 Top Rated Answer

Thanks for the reply Terry. It was actually just a stuck lock-up-solenoid on the outside of the tranny. Replaced that and all was good! I should have posted that here but forgot all about it!

Question From cbr651192 on 1989 dodge dynasty

hi im looking at a 89 dodge dynasty runs pretty good but has a significant amount of oil leaking, leak appears to be back center close to fire wall anyone have any ideas my guess is valve cover gasket, car has 68,000 on it but is 17 years old would appreciate any one with knowlede of whats in that area that would leak like that thanks everyone

Response From DanD Top Rated Answer

Without seeing the car you’re probably right about the valve cover leaking; I’ve replaced hundreds of them. The heat from the engine seems to bake and harden the rubber gasket cracking it. It’s the place to start anyway.
    Dan.
