Response From Tom Greenleaf

This is a year and a half old not by OP. What is the exact vehicle and issue? This thread should be separated - T

Response From Hammer Time Top Rated Answer

I didn't realize that when I posted. I'm locking it now and the poster needs to start his own thread.

Response From Tom Greenleaf

Get a code reading - it has something to tell you no doubt,

T

Response From JAKALLANNA

WHERE DO I GET A CODE READING, SORRY MECH DUMMY HERE

Response From Tom Greenleaf

Many of the larger and others parts outlets are doing code readings for free! Since 1996 up, all vehicles made have on board diagnostics called OBDII which is monitoring tons of items and the code(s) don't necessarily say exactly what to do but should lead to the problem area.

Example might be an oxygen sensor saying it has enough fuel delivery and tell the vehicle to make adjustments to compensate or 100s of possible things. You may have a clogged converter and should know that performance of it is poor or below specs. Things like that save time in manual diagnosing or wasting time and money replacing things that are NOT the cause. Even if the check engine light is not staying on it's watching and in time if an engine isn't running well will throw a hard code and light will stay lit.

Still takes human judgement on what to do based on the info. If you are not one to fix this yourself then about all shops will do a code reading first with this complaint. Acting fast with an engine that isn't running properly can save a ton of bucks vs waiting,

Question From wh2311 on 1993 dodge dakota transmission shifting

1993 dodge dakota 4x4, 3.9, auto. takes along time to shift to drive. shifts fine first to second and drive to overdrive . i changed the filter but no change

Response From eric618

Have the same problem with my 1994 Dodge Dakota 4x4 with automatic. Have to run the RPMs up high to shift from 2nd to 3rd. Is there an adjustment for this shift point and where is it on the trans. I don't see an TV cable on this truck going to the throttle. Did anyone else have this problem?

Response From Hammer Time Top Rated Answer

You need to start a new question of your own. Don't hijack someone else's.

wvhollerman@yahoo.com

Response From Loren Champlain Sr

vw; Are you sure you are lacking fuel pressure? Are you getting injector pulse when it doesn't run? Fuel pump relay?

Response From wvhollerman

cant get any voltage from injectors on start up but also have remove fuel line and no feul is present even after key is on i did diagnostic in haynes book on distib harness and the relay is clickink so i assume it is workink also there are three relays in this truck that are alike i switched them around and still nothing

Response From wvhollerman

the fuel pump doesnot kick on when i turn on the ignition, there is no fuel is coming from the injectors when you turn ignition on or crank engine over.
as far as i can tell there is no fuel pump relay on the vehicle. according to haynes manual there is no relay on this model.however there is a auto shut down relay could this be the problem. i dont know if this would cause one to work a few days then shut down or not. as i stated before this is the second brand new fuel pump i have put on and the previous owner installed one also . all old gas has been replacdd that was in the vehicle prior to my possession also. it set as whilke with previous owner so i assumed it could have been a bad fuel pump cause by the old gas so i changed it. and changed it agian when problem started over after just a couple of days.

Response From Loren Champlain Sr

wv; You are correct. This uses an ASD relay. We still need to know if the fuel pump is getting voltage. A noid light connected to the injectors to see if they are pulsing will tell us a lot. If I'm reading the diagram correctly, it is a dark green wire with a black tracer that supplies the fuel pump (coming from the ASD relay). Again, if reading correctly, the SBEC (pin #9, dark blue wire) powers the ASD relay (fuse #13). Hopefully, one of the guys that are much better than me will jump in here. Electrical is my weakest area.

Response From wvhollerman Top Rated Answer

can u please send me a link 4 the diagram u r speeking of? thank you so much. please check back after i test this i will send you what i find out.

Response From wvhollerman

if anyone has a diagram link please post. for the aboved mentioned information. i am having trouble locating these items spoke of.

Response From Loren Champlain Sr

wv; I don't have a way of posting wiring diagrams. Sorry. Your public library, more than likely, will have manuals that you can make copies of what you need. Pretty sure that All Data has them online, but charges for the service?

Response From Hammer Time

You can find out if the ASD is working by just checking for power at one side of the injectors during the first 2 seconds of turning the key on.

What you could have is a bad Crank Sensor because the ASD won't power during cranking unless it sees a crank signal but it will power for 2 seconds on initial "key on"

1990 dodge dakota stalled and oil light came on

Question From dawn28304 on 1990 dodge dakota stalled and oil light came on

I have a 1990 dodge dakota with about 121,000 miles on it. I just replaces all plugs and wires, oil cylinoid valve, drivers side vavle cover gasket, cat converter, muffler, tailpipe, did a fuel flush,an engine flush, changed the oil three days ago and adjusted the idle. Today I was driving it at around 45 miles per hour and the whole truck just shut off and the oil light came on. When i tried to start it it wouldn't start, it took five tries of me being in the middle of the road to get it going again. It is runnig sluggish and to be honest that scared the crude out of me. I am not sure what happened and I really don't want it to happen again. it is still idleing rough and I don't know what to do. on occasion when I go from a higer speed to a lower speed it wants to shut off. please help me

dawn

Response From way2old

Did the oil light come on before or after the engine died? If it came on after the engine died, that would be considered normal as all the instrument lights should come on. Did you change the distributor cap and rotor when you changed the plugs and wires? The dying could possibly be related to the idle speed control system somewhere. Please answer the above questions and we can zero in on this.

Response From SMPL17 Top Rated Answer

How much oil is in the engine? An oil light coming on is wicked bad but except for that unfortunately beats me. Some bolts not tight enough so loosing compression? Service engine soon light?

Response From Tom Greenleaf

Certainly check the oil level. Light would come on with it stalling so that's inconclusive for now. This could be several things but I suspect there is a vacuum leak causing this problem and something may have been disturburbed by mistake or broke in checking air filter or something common to check at oil change intervals,
