93 mazda

Question From buckyboy on 93 mazda

I have a 93 mazda mx-6 ls with a 2.5 v-6. i was at a gas station and put gas in and when leaving my car died and now has no spark. i put new cap and rotor in but made no difference. I was told the ignition module but dont know where it is. I generally know that they are in the distributor but someone told me that it could be by the battery or the left side wheel well. i have no idea what it looks like so if someone could give me a little advise on that or what could be wrong with the car I would be very appreciative. thank you for reading and sorry about the typing errors if any.

Response From nickwarner

You will want to verify the module has power and ground to know if its any good. I'd also check for injector pulse. If you have it, you know its only an ignition issue and the modules in those did tend to go out. If you have no injector pulse, you are looking at a different problem altogether because the ECM isn't getting its required info to make it send commands to the ignition or the injectors.

Response From buckyboy

thank you i wiil look into that. Thanks for the idea and will try to make something work.

Response From rasmataz Top Rated Answer

I agree with Hammer Time-Replacing the distributor is the fix for the problem-I did the same thing back in 2008 with my 93 Mx-6 or you can try the HEI module fabrication

Response From Hammer Time

I just had one of these a couple days ago with no spark and it turned out to be the distributor. Pretty common issue. The Ignition module, called the ignitor is built into the distributor and not serviced separately.

Question From kramerfb on Mazda 323

Hi. I have a 88 Mazda 323 1.5 automatic. It idles ok but it starts chocking when revved. There is a spark jumping across from the negative terminal to the primary tower of the igntion coils. What could be the cause of that? I have checked the spark plugs, cleaned the distributor cap, changed the HT lead and replaced the ignition coil but to no avail.

Response From Hammer Time

Electricity will take the path of least resistance so either the coil is cracked at the tower or there is too much resistance in the secondary circuit which includes the wires, plugs cap and rotor

Response From kramerfb Top Rated Answer

Thanks very much for your reply. Could it be that the condenser is at fault? I did change the coil and it's still sparking... I guess what i'm asking is what would the most likely culprit be should the coil be ok....

Response From Hammer Time

I just named all the possible components. The condenser is just noise suppression. Just make sure the coil isn't cracked first.

Question From rasta28210 on 1993 Mazda 626 4CYL DOHC

WILL NOT RUN. CHANGED WATER PUMP CHANGED TIMING BELT. SET CRANKSHAFT TO TDC ON NO.1, DISTRIBUTOR IS SET FOR NO.1. QUESTION IS THIS, THERE ARE 2 MARKS ON EACH CAMSHAFT SPROKET. I AND E. THE ONE THAT IS TURNING THE DISTRIBUTOR IS SET. IT IS THE ONE THAT IS NEAR THE FIREWALL THAT I HAVE QUESTIONS ABOUT. NOW WHAT DO I DO WHEN I HAVE EVERYTHING SET AND TURN THE CRANKSHAFT 2 TIMES AND SET IT BACK AT TDC THEN TRY TO START THE ENGINE AND IT DOES NOT RUN? IF ANYONE OUT THERE HAVE A SUGGESTION AND MAYBE A DIAGRAM OF HOW YOU SET THE DARN THING, THAT WOULD BE A BLESSING. THANKS!

Response From DanD Top Rated Answer

I won’t be back to work until Tues. but if you still need a diagram by then bump the thread back to the top and I’ll see what I have.

Firing order please

Question From ljulius on Firing order please

I need the firing order for a 1991 mazda 4 cylinder.

this has been put into a 91 ford probe.

there was a tune up done and I think there is a wire wrong.

Thanks!

Response From DanD Top Rated Answer

The firing order for almost all four cylinders is 1342. As for the direction of rotation and original # one location at the distributor. I would need to know the engine size and what model of Mazda it came out of or whether the ignition was changed over to the ford system.
Dan.

Response From ljulius

I apologize, I was under the impression that this was a replaced motor, it is the original motor in a 1991 Ford Probe.

Does that Help?

Thanks for your reply.

Response From DanD

Ok so what is the engine size???

Response From Tom Greenleaf

It reminds me of that famous sign on the wall of professional parts folks, Hello "Make - Model- Year and engine size" ------ other wise it's it total guessing! Be well all - I mean no harm,

92 Mazda Protege stalling, help reading codes

Question From wcollins73 on 92 Mazda Protege stalling, help reading codes

1992 Mazda Protege SOHC, 1.8, AT, 140k

Need help diagnosing; not sure if I'm reading codes correct.
I get: 2 short, pause, 6 short, pause, 1 long, pause, 7 short.
I assume this is 26 (purge solenoid) and 17 (feedback system)???

Symptoms:
During acceleration or coasting, car will randomly stall or almost stall. Example: I'm going about 35mph, tach reads about 2k rpm, suddenly and briefly the rpms will drop to 0 and I will lose power, then it will bounce back to normal. It will repeat this several times in as many seconds. Accelerating, coasting, switching to neutral or lower gear all seem to make no difference. Half the time, the car will completely stall. I'll shift to neutral and restart (it always restarts, but not always on the first try). Sometimes the process repeats after restart and other times it goes away.

Any help appreciated.

Wes

UPDATE:
Turned out to be oil in the distributor. Replaced distributor with one from a junk yard. Running fine for several months now.

Response From Hammer Time

The purge solenoid is just emission control so that isn't causing any driveabilty issues.

Here is the flow chart for 17

Response From Timthecarguy719 Top Rated Answer

Where did you get this information?
I never could find wave patterns.

Response From wcollins73

Thanks for the help. Replace O2 sensor; code 17 hasn't come back in 3 days, but car is still acting the same (stalling). Code 26 hasn't returned either.

Exhaust smells like car is running rich. Some gray smoke.

Replace recently: fuel pump, distributor, cap, plugs, wires, IAC, air filter.

Today it stalled and wouldn't start. I was checking vacuum lines and accidentally broke a vacuum line nipple running from the the Pressure regulator solenoid to the Pressure regulator. I just let the line dangle there, but the care started despite. I drove the mile back to my office without problems, but when I went to leave 30 minutes later the car wouldn't start.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Response From Loren Champlain Sr

wc; The pressure regulator must have full manifold vacuum to it, or the computer will see a loss of vacuum (thinking you are under heavy demand) and go full rich.
Of course, this will cause an O2 trouble code.
