Bearing vs. Differntial Bearing

Question From Hinderloppet on Bearing vs. Differntial Bearing

I took my 2002 Mini Cooper to a Transmission Rebuild guy a year and half ago. He replaced the clutch plate and the bearings in the transaxle. A couple of months ago it started making cavitating sounds. So, I took it back to the guy to have it checked out. Now he is saying that the differential bearing is going out, causing the cv joint to wobble, and I did not have the differential bearing replaced last time, so it is not covered under the warranty he places on his work.
Can someone tell me what the difference is between the bearings in the transaxle and differential bearings? Don't trust this guy and want to know if he is not telling me the truth.

Response From Discretesignals Top Rated Answer

The differential is inside the transaxle case. The bearings that support the final drive/differential are inside the transaxle case also. The entire case has to come apart to replace those.

Question From LilBlack4x4 on 1994 Blazer making funny noises from rear end

Well my truck is making a funny noise from the rear end and kinda makes a klinkin noise when i hit the gas too hard. Almost like a slipage but not in the trans. if you know what i mean. Dont know what it is can someone help me with this. my email is prydeshannon85@yahoo.com.

Response From DanD Top Rated Answer

So many variables that without hearing the noise and or road testing the vehicle it could be anything from bad U-joints, differential bearings too broken rear brake hardware.
All I can suggest is to take the truck in and have it inspected.
Dan.

Response From LilBlack4x4

The noise sounds like its not catching on the spindle in the rear end.

grinding noise from front end

Question From 1950muzzleloader on grinding noise from front end

1989 GMC K1500 200K+miles. I'm getting an intermittent grinding noise that grinds at the same speed as the rotation of the wheels. It even does it when coasting and applying the brakes has no effect I.E. when the speed goes down so does the frequency of the grinding noise. This is on the front of the vehicle.

Response From Hammer Time Top Rated Answer

You're not going to know what it is until someone inspects it. It could be wheel bearings, brakes, differential bearings, etc

Response From 1950muzzleloader

I jacked up both sides of the front end and checked wheels by turning them by hand. The passenger front is making a dragging sound when spun. Crap.
Thanks for your input, much apprreciated.

Question From the_unregular_1 on 2000 chevy making weird noise

I have a 2000 chevy silverado with a 5.3L enigine in it and just lately ive been noticing a weird sound coming from the back end of the truck. The sounds almost like something is dragging behind my truck, but there isnt I checked, and it increases while I accelerate until I am at a steady speed. So I was just wondering if someones had this problem before or someone could help me with some information. Thank You.

Response From Hammer Time Top Rated Answer

Could be a wheel bearing, differential bearing, brake noise or even tire noise. It needs to be diagnosed by someone that specializes in that type of repair.
