Question From Soulman42 on Replace crankshaft position sensor.

I have a 2011 Cadillac Eacalade ESV. It needsa new crankshaft position sensor. Could anyone tell me how to remove the second bolt from the sensor cover. Seems like a real pain, maybe I just don't have the right tools.
Andy

Response From Discretesignals

1. Remove the starter.
2. Working through the wheel well opening, disconnect the engine wiring harness electrical connector (1) from the crankshaft position (CKP) sensor.

3. Clean the area around the CKP sensor before removal in order to avoid debris from entering the engine.
4. Remove the CKP sensor bolt.
5. Remove the CKP sensor.

Response From kev2 Top Rated Answer

before you R&R sensor- want to make sure you are aware...
Why are you replacing CKP - they do not fail that often?
Do you have The CKP relearn procedure - need a scanner.

Question From kht1990 on crankshaft position sensor

I have a 1997 chevy cavalier and had to replace the motor. The junkyard gave me a 1996 motor and everything matches up except the water pump is a little different and the crankshaft position sensor. The crankshaft position sensor on the 1997 is a two prong plug and the new motor has a three prong. Does any one know what I can do to make this engine run. Is there any way to convert one part of the sensor?

Response From Tom Greenleaf Top Rated Answer

Will the old one fit in the new engine? If not that is a headache and the engine swap should have been with one that is an exact fit. You can't just fudge all kinds of things very easily,

Question From awsander on 2002 Vortec 8100 Crankshaft Position Sensor

I am trying to replace the crankshaft position sensor on my 2002 GMC Sierra 2500 HD. It has the 8.1L engine. I have heard several places as to where this sensor is located and still have not seemed to find it. If someone would have a link to a picture or a diagram that would be great. Thanks.

Andrew

Response From Hammer Time

It's on the back of the engine where the bellhousing meets the engine.

Here are the replacement instructions

Response From awsander Top Rated Answer

Thanks for the help. I was also wondering about the CKP relearn procedure, is that something i can do at home or do I have to take the vehicle to a dealership or somewhere else to put it on a computer/machine?

Response From Hammer Time

You will need a factory scan tool for that. If you can get your hands on a Tech2 or equivalent, you can do it, otherwise you'll need the dealer.

Question From epbomb1 on 2008 Dodge Avenger Crankshaft sensor loacation

Can anyone provide me a picture or diagram of where the crankshaft position sensor is so I can replace it? I have error codes p0315 and p0335, theyre both Crankshaft position sensor errors. Need to fix this pronto, someone please help!

Response From Hammer Time

Apparently you want us to guess which engine you have?

Response From epbomb1

Sorry I forgot to post the engine, it's my girlfriend's car. It's a 2.4 L 4 cylinder engine, I had a diagnostic test run on the engine, it gave me error codes p0315 and p035, the first being 'crankshaft system variation' and the second being 'Crankshaft position sensor A circuit malfunction.'

Response From Discretesignals Top Rated Answer

How did you come to the conclusion the crankshaft position sensor is the culprit? I'm sure you tested power, ground, and the signal circuits before condemning it.

Question From mikeb1957 on removing crankshaft position sensor

My car (1990 Pontiac 6000 v6 3.1 liter) will crank but it only idles for a while then goes dead, it will start again but only idles before going dead again. If i try to put the car in gear it stalls, but will crank again when i attempt to start it, but will only stall again. The car was running just fine when i was coming from work. Then it wouldnt build up any power then it went dead. I could only crank it and get up to 5 mph for 10 blocks home, it seemed like it wouldnt burn the gas and build up power. I was told it could be the crankshaft position sensor and want to know what is the easiest way to remove the crankshaft position sensor and any info on problems that these symptons could be on a 1990 Pontiac 6000 v6 3.1 liter

Response From Hammer Time

Who determined that it needs a Crank sensor?

Response From mikeb1957 Top Rated Answer

A friend who has some knowledge of automotives

Response From Hammer Time

He's probably wrong. i would test the fuel pressure first.

Here is the spec

Ignition ON Engine OFF 40.5 to 47.0 psi
With Regulator Vacuum Applied 3.0 - 10.0 psi Less than Ignition ON Engine OFF

Response From mikeb1957

I checked the vacuum pressure and fuel pressure and i got 20psi vacuum, and 39psi fuel pressures.

Response From Hammer Time

If the engine wasn't running when you took that reading, then you don't have enough fuel pressure.
