  • Robust design and high grade materials meet the stringent demands of today's service professional. In design, we specify custom wax formulations that will expand when heated, activate a snap action electrical contact and transfer the electrical signal to the fan controller. In manufacturing, we custom form the wax pellets for different temperature range specifications. All units are calibrated & tested to confirm switch actuation at their specified temperature. The switch is designed using a formed bimetallic contact arm. The bimetal contact movement is achieved using the different expansion rates of two metals fused together. This is a creep action device, provides precise performance. In production, all thermal switches are factory-calibrated to make electrical contact at the specified lower-temperature set point. As a global manufacturer of original equipment ignition products, we maintain complete quality control throughout the manufacturing process from componentry to finished product.

  • This is a Universal/Non Application Specific Product. To install this part, you made need to cut, weld, or make other modifications to your vehicle.

Can you please tell me where the Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor is located, Can't find it thank you

Response From Hammer Time

Assuming your looking for the sensor for the computer and not the gauge, it's on the corner of the intake manifold near the end of the front head.

Response From Sidom Top Rated Answer

Should be on the theromstat housing near the back of the motor

Question From jowilly on coolant temperature sensor may be bad

1994 chevy corsica v6 3.1
The coolant fan would not come on when the car got to the right temp.I checked the coolant switch to see if I got the right reading when I unhooked it the wireing harness when the car was running hot the fan came on what does that mean?

Response From Hammer Time

It doesn't mean anything. It's supposed to do that. What is the "right temp" that you refer to when you were expecting the fan to come on?

Response From jowilly Top Rated Answer

the car has been running hot when you are in stop and go driveing but the temp is fine when you are on the highway.I checked the sensor when the car was cold to check for the right resistance on my meter to see if it was bad but I got the right reading. So now what do you thank I should check.could it be a relay switch? And the fan does not come on when the car starts to over heat pass the mid way point on the gauge?

Response From Mr.scotty

A cars temp gauge can go up even a little over 3/4 when sitting still, as long as it don't go all the way to hot and the fans do come on and doesn't let the temp get and higher the car is fine.

Response From Hammer Time

I think you should leave it alone because there is nothing wrong with it. It is supposed to get hotter in traffic situations. It runs a 195 degree thermostat but the fans aren't programmed to come on until 226 degrees which is above halfway on the gauge.

Question From jkwilliams on Fans not working

Would anyone know why my radiator fan do not turn on?
The fuse is OK and its not over heating, yet.

Response From autojoe Top Rated Answer

year/make/model/engine size? Most tranverse engines electric cooling fans come on at a stop or in traffic because when vehicle is moving air goes through rad removing heat from cooling system.most people find out fans not running when temp gauge goes up or idiot light comes on.A scan tool would tell you what temperature the coolant temperature sensor is telling the computer. On newer cars the coolant temperature sensor tells the pcm the coolant temperature and then the pcm controls the cooling fan or fans through low or high speed cooling fan relays.if you let car sit at stand still with engine running and temp gauge gets to about 1/2 way about normal operating temperature and see if fans kick on.If you have ac turn the ac switch on and see if the fans kick on.

Response From Loren Champlain Sr

The electric cooling fan is controlled by the computer via a coolant fan switch, which tells the computer the engine temp. Many of these fans will not come on until the engine reaches 220-235F. (Another reason for 50/50 mix coolant..without coolant under pressure, you'd be boiling at 212F.

Response From Tom Greenleaf

Just a thought - is it warmed up enough to even need the fan(s)? If cold enough out it might not??

I was kinda thinking the same thing, Tom.. Got up to a balmy 43F today. Brrrrrrrr. Windy, rainy. Leaves everywhere. arrggghhh.

Question From mvannoy24 on 93 mustang lx 2.0 4cyl please help identify part!!

Can anyone tell me what this sensor is? When it is plugged in my fan doesnt not run and my car overheats and i loss gas power. But when i unplug it the car runs fine.. can anyone help? its a 1993 ford mustang lx 2.0l 4cyl

Response From Hammer Time

We don't have any mustangs with 2.0s. Are you sure about that?
Does this car have auto temp control AC?

Response From Discretesignals Top Rated Answer

That's the engine coolant temperature sensor for the computer.

What's that T fitting in the other heater hose doing there?

Response From mvannoy24

The T-fitting is going to a heating block.. i have no clue why it is on there it was there when i bought the car.

will the engine coolant temperature sensor make the car loss gas power?

Also i just noticed my cat is glowing red hot..

Any it is a 2.3L 4cyl sorry other post was a typo..

Response From Discretesignals

The coolant temperature sensor won't make the cat turn red. You have some type of misfiring going on causing the cat to glow like that.

Is the engine running rough at idle?

Response From mvannoy24

Yes a little.. then put it into R or Drive it shakes really bad.. and now i loss almost all gas power. goes like 5-10mph tops.. and sometimes it runs perfect for like 10-15 min then power goes out again.

Response From Hammer Time

If you are driving this thing around with that sensor disconnected, that will tell the computer that it's -40 degrees with will certainly make the mixture too rich and cause a lot of your problems. You can't leave that disconnected.

Response From Discretesignals

Must be running on 2 cylinders. You need to figure out which cylinders are misfiring. Once you determine which ones are missing, you need to figure out if they are getting spark or you have some sort of compression problem going on. I'd say your getting fuel because the cat is red.

You can also pull some spark plugs and see which cylinders are gas fouled. Too bad you don't have an EEC IV tester that can do a power balance test. That would make finding out which cylinder(s) are missing a lot easier.

You shouldn't drive it anymore until your fix your misfiring problem. You'll end up ruining the catalyst, if it isn't already wasted.

Response From mvannoy24

would bad coil packs be the problem of it all?

Response From Discretesignals

It's possible, but you need to figure out which cylinder(s) are missing and why. You could also get a spark tester and check for spark once you determine which cylinders are dead horses.

Since this one has two plugs per cylinder, probably the easiest way is to unplug each fuel injector connector one at a time with the engine running to determine which cylinder is missing. The one that doesn't change the running of the engine once unplugged is a missing cylinder.

Response From mvannoy24

Can anyone one tell me how to read the codes from the check engine light? The light is on but the part store says they cant check it because its a 93

Response From Discretesignals

You have to ground the STI connector terminal #2 with a jumper wire. Then turn the ignition on and the computer will run a series of tests and then display codes via the check engine light. Keep your hands away from the cooling fan. The codes are two or three digit format.

Probably an easier way is to get hold of a EEC IV code reader. They're not expensive (around $30-$40) and can do other types of self tests including a power balance test.

Response From mvannoy24

its not being driven around unplugged.. can u explain my loss of gas power? and rough idle in Reverse and Drive?

Response From Hammer Time

Your car overheats, it runs rough. It's time to have it diagnosed professionally as you may have some serious internal damage.
