control arm shaft removal

i have a tubular upper control arm for an 89 mustang. i took off the bronze nuts on each end but i am not sure what the best method is to remove the control arm shaft. the shaft turns freely by hand. any help would be appreciated. thank you.

The bushings have to be pressed out the remove the shaft from the control arm.

That's funny. The foxes didn't have a control arm shafts in the lower control arms. The lower control arm has two bolts with nuts that slide through the frame and the bushings on the control arms to hold it in place. Doesn't have an upper because the fox uses front struts. I have one sitting in the garage as I type this.

Must have some sort of front end modification done on it.

He did specify upper.

If he stated upper, then his must be really special because that fox doesn't use upper control arms.

Does anyone know if you can replace the rear lower control arm bushing ( looks like a hockey puck ) on the front suspension of a 2000 Pontiac Sunfire without removing the whole lower control arm out of the car?

To my knowledge the control arm has to be removed and inserted into a vice and a special bushing remover/installer tool is needed.

I just finished replacing totality shot upper control arm bushings. Is there any way to see or test if lower control arm bushings need to be replaced? Wheel off ground does not move when shaken like it did before upper replacement. Vehicle has 290K miles on it.

Lower control arm bushings are a little tougher to check because they will always have some tension (load) from the spring applied.
The best way I’ve found is with the wheels and control arms hanging free in the air (vehicle lifted by the frame);try with a pry bar to move the control arm.
If there is any movement, other then the stretch of the rubber bushing; replace it.
Also look very close to where the through bolt(s) goes through the bushing; it should look centered in the rubber; along with no cracks or splits in the rubber of the bushing.

Last Thursday my ball joint (lower control arm) broke on the passenger side of my 1997 Eagle Talon ESI 2.0 DOHC. I replaced the control arm on Saturday and with a great deal of nervousness have been driving it Sunday and today (this was my first control arm replacement).

The car rides perfect! Better than it did when I bought it. But for some reason whenever I turn the car to the right there is a growl, a very distinct growl, which appears to emanate from the driver side of the car. Six months ago I had the driver's side lower control arm/ball joint replaced by a professional so I'm pretty sure that I'm ok on ball joints and control arms.

Does anybody have any ideas as to what could be causing the growl?

130,000 miles.

Make sure that whenever you go for a replacement of any part the wheel alingnment has also to be checked.

It takes a few minuites but it will be flawless

The symptoms suggest a left front wheel bearing. Of course, check the brakes, first.
