I have a 1999 Isuzu Rodeo
2.2 cylinder 2WD 5spd manual transmission with a dual overhead cam.
It has a little over 91,000 miles on it.

It seems everything has fallen apart at once.

My big problem is the car revving high when I press the gas, but does not have any power. It doesn't slip in and out like a bad clutch, besides the clutch is brand new and the problem was pre-existing. I have a check engine light (P0140, Oxygen Sensor).

Recent work on the car (last 30 days)
New clutch (entire clutch)
New exhaust (catalytic converter, etc.)
Resealed the Valve Cover Gasket with silicon
New starter
New plugs

The oil leak I had (resealed with silicon gasket seal glue) led to the starter problem as oil leaked into the starter. It also was leading to the plug problem as oil was in the plugs and they were misfiring (they were old as well) After we (a buddy who works on cars) and I changed the plugs it smoked pretty bad for a bit because of he oil that had come out and after that was also when the car had its worst problems revving with no power. Could oil have leaked into the clutch or tranny causing it to slip? If so, will this burn off? Could the oxygen sensor be the problem? The engine idles just fine and I am out of ideas.

That's a pretty nasty oil leak if it killed a starter etc.,

The missfire and smoke would set off an O2 code and if plenty of oil got on the friction lining of the clutch it sure could slip. When this leak is solved you probably have to replace the disc again and clean up the other parts - I don't think it will just burn off so well on its own,

I just bought this amigo about 2 months ago...my dads friend rebuilt the engine and drove it for about 5k miles before i bought it with no problems. When i got it i noticed it had no oil so we did an oil change since it was due for one anyway. Since then i have checked the oil twice and both times the dipstick was dry and clean, no water on it. both times ive filled it with oil again only for it to disappear. i checked the coolant and its fine. also i have checked if its leaking or burning oil and it doesnt seem to be doing either, since i cannot find a drop of oil on the motor, ground or anywhere else and the car does not smoke unless its cold and then its white smoke. i do believe my catalytic converter is plugged or something because the car has recently began to bog down when going up an incline but this problem just started within the last few days while oil has been disappearing for 2 months. Does anyone have any idea what this problem could be?

well we just looked at this again to find it is burning a small amount of oil...but not nearly the 10 quartz that its gone threw this month...any ideas?

Check, or just replace, the PCV valve. These can go 'bad' and 'suck' oil out of the crankcase without any signs. Cheap guess. Valve guide seals would give you a clue by a puff of blue smoke on start up or deceleration. Rings would cause blue smoke all of the time.
Catalytic converters do not 'like' oil. It is possible that it is partially plugged if it's been going through that much oil. This can be checked with a pressure guage installed into the oxygen sensor port. You also may want to check the fuel filter for blockage.

I really don't have any ideas on this one. That's a huge amount of oil to be going thru. It has to be going somewhere. If it's not going on the ground, then it has to be burning it. The only other place it could go would be the cooling system but that would be obvious as well.........

1998 Isuzu Hombre (re-badged Chevy S10)
engine is 2.2L four-cylinder, five-speed manual, no air, PS, PB.
About 138,000 miles. Front end rebuilt and brakes done.

My OBD popped a P 0113 today. I replaced the Intake Air Temp sensor and I still get the reading. With the sensor replaced, am I allowed to clear the fault manually? I have to get it smogged in the next month and I want to get it up to speed.

I'm also getting a P 0420 (Catalyst efficiency below threshold) and I'm wondering, should i replace the catalytic converter pre-emptively or let the smog guy tell me?

Why go to an inspection that you know you are going to fail. You will need time for the monitors to reset after the cat is replaced so the sooner the better.

As for the IAT code, the problem can be anywhere in the circuit and the code does not mean "change the sensor". It means find out why the code set. They have a lot of problems with the wiring and plug at the sensor. you can buy a new pigtail and splice the wires to it. just make sure you get the wires in the right position because the wires will be all white on the new pigtail.

I'm not taking it to an inspection til I have this stuff resolved. I have a cat ordered, but it's got to be CA legal so it's very expensive. As old as the truck is (14 years old) I figured a new sensor was $15 well spent. Besides, swapping out the the sensor is something *I* can do. I can change out the cat, too, but I'm not looking forward to that. At least one night of being soaked down with WD40 is in the future of all those nuts and bolts.

I have to order the gaskets for the cat. Ugh.

Be glad in CA that a tough job involves penetrating oil. Your truck in WI doesn't come apart without one of two tools. Either a cutting torch or the finger of god.

Cutting torch is a little easier to come by.

I'm a single mom and have not a clue to the best thing I should do.

My 2004 Isuzu Rodeo won't start and I think it's the batteries. The interior light is dim and the headlights won't come on. There isn't anyone around to give me a jump because they are at work. Though I may have a tow company come by in the afternoon. If I get it started, what should I do next besides take it to a fix it shop. I don't want to be stuck with a huge bill I can't pay.

So here's part of the trucks history:

It had the alternator replaced about 2 years ago.

Batteries were replaced 2 1/2 years ago

There was a worn belt with cracks that needed to be replaced soon. The mechanic did tell me if it broke the car won't start at all so I'm guessing it's a fan belt.

The engine light came on this weekend and had the catalytic converter replaced that is still under warrentee.

Any suggestions?

Your going to need to have the battery tested as well as the charging system and the electrical system checked for draws when the vehicle is off...
If the belt broke before it was shut off,you would have certainly known that....
First things first....see if it will jump start...if so have the batteries tested..
IF battery/batteries are 2 1/2 years old you may have some sort of warranty still on them...Pro-rated warranty which means basically you pay for the months used towards a new battery....some batteries come with a free 2 year or 3 year replacement period ..so check into that as well...
If its known the belt is worn....HAVE it replaced....
this type of basic maintenance thats usually neglected will let you down and cost you much much more than if you had replaced it when told it was bad....
make sure you test for electrical draws...if there is one you certainly don't want to drain any new battery....

Help! I have a 1997 Isuzu Rodeo 4 cylinder 3.6 liter engine manual transmission. 200,000 miles. It started having issues for a few months now, and the newest one has me stumped. Right now when car is working, i do have to let it run 5 min in the morning, cause if i dont, it will stall out. I know that has to do with a couple of sensors i need to replace that are just too expensive. been running that way for a while now.... OK so the problem started a few days ago. when i drive, it would take forever to make it go faster. and the harder i pressed the gas pedal, the harder it seemed to make the engine run, and would make a noise like when your car is stuck in the mud and your reving the engine to get the tire out, but not going anywhere. When I FINALLY get the car up to around 50-55 miles an hour, it just seemed to no longer accelerate, no matter how much i pushed the fuel pedal. and again if i pressed it harder it would make that noise so id let off the pedal and cruise. Car is not over heating. I have replaced already (due to other problems) the clutch, the master cylinder for the brakes, the water pump, the distributor cap within the last 4 months. Now i did replace the O2 sensor a few months back trying to fix another problem, but that wasnt the solution, so when the water pump went out last month, I returned the O2 sensor to get a new water pump. I think that may be the problem, but my BF says he doesnt think so, and thinks it may be the fuel pump. Please someone help, I got .22 cents in my account, and cant afford to be fixing something that doesnt need it. HELP!

Hi

I guess you're going to have to start by getting the fuel pressure checked with a fuel pressure gauge .
Fuel pressure should be between 41-55 PSI on a 2.6 L
Also get the computer scanned for trouble codes.

This will eliminate the guess work and the throwing parts at it.

Any timing belt history/replacement?
How old is the clutch?
From what you describe ,with the engine just "revving" it sounds almost like a clutch /transmission problem.
Is that what happens? Does the engine just "rev" ?
Trying to better understand the problem here.

Thanks for replying. I may have misdiscribed a bit. Its not just reving, the sound it makes is like its bogging down when im trying to speed up. I took it to get the codes check, and two codes came up that i think may be the problem. two codes showing the catylic converter was starting to get clogged. Also one code showing the emission purge was faulty. so thinking that is the problem. (emission thing i have written down some where not necessarily the exact wording lol.) I hope its just the fuel pump and not the catalytic converter as that is expensive lol. Thanks again for replying if u have anymore ideas let me know.
