Question From Guest on 95 Cadillac Seville Alternator install

What is the best way to get this alternator out?

Response From Hammer Time Top Rated Answer

Assuming you have a 4.6 engine, here are the instructions.

REMOVE OR DISCONNECT

  1. Negative battery cable.
  2. Cover from headlamps and radiator shroud.
  3. Air cleaner.
  4. Left engine torque strut.
  5. Upper transmission oil cooler line.
  6. Right and left cooling fans.
  7. Serpentine belt from alternator pulley.
  8. Alternator lower front and front top bolts.
  9. Harness connector and output cable from alternator.
  10. Two bolts from alternator rear bracket to alternator. The bolt nearest the exhaust manifold cannot be removed from the bracket but can be backed out to allow for removal of the alternator.
  11. A/C splash shield from cradle (3 bolts).
  12. Access panel from bottom side of radiator support (4 bolts).
  13. Engine harness clip from cradle.
  14. Alternator from vehicle. The alternator can be moved out away from the engine and removed from the bottom side of the engine compartment.

INSTALL OR CONNECT
  1. Alternator to mounting bracket with two bolts to rear of alternator (hand tighten).
  2. Engine harness clip to cradle.
  3. Access panel to lower radiator support (4 bolts).
  4. A/C splash shield to cradle (3 bolts).
  5. Harness connector and output cable to alternator. Tighten output cable to 20 Nm (15 lbs ft) and rear mounting bolts to 47 Nm (36 lbs ft) .
  6. Bolts to lower front and front top of alternator. Tighten to 47 Nm (35 lbs ft) .
  7. Rotate drive belt tensioner and install drive belt around alternator pulley. Inspect for correct alignment of belt with all accessory pulleys.
  8. Left and right cooling fans.
  9. Upper transmission oil cooler line.
  10. Left engine torque strut.
  11. Air cleaner.
  12. Cover from headlamps and radiator shroud.
  13. Negative battery cable and tighten bolt to15 Nm (11 lbs ft) .

Question From fiestywoman80 on 1990 cadillac seville

1990 cadillac seville wont start says "start diabled due to theft system.. can any one help me or tell me why this would say it .. took it to the garage and they say nothing comes up when they put it on the computer thing... we have checked everything ...

Response From Guest

those are the old URT systems if you have any controller, computer what you want to call it that is off the bus then nothing will work right try holding your heat and off button at the same time this will run a self test off all systems and give you codes after you do that post the codes abd the theft systems are easy to by-pass on those

Response From Guest Top Rated Answer

the key has a resistor on it clean it off and retry starting car after 15 mins .

Response From Tom Greenleaf

What is not working? Does the engine crank and not start or nothing at all?

Some of those cars used a PIA chip in the key and only a dealer should disable that if that's the problem and you prove it's your car. T

1992 Cadillac seville problem

Question From Guest on 1992 Cadillac seville problem

i have a 1992 cadillac seville with 4.9 and its running very rich and i smell fumes. it is jerking throughout driving range. after i run the car for about 15 min. it runs better. i checked my OBD and it pops a code that says ECM? does this mean that the ecm is not communicating with the OBD? i tried putting it on a dyno and have no responce there either. Please help

Response From Loren Champlain Sr

Post the code(s) you retrieved.

Response From Guest

the only real code it could be is the ECM? it wont comunicate with the dyno either

Response From Loren Champlain Sr Top Rated Answer

Again, what code did you get?

Response From Guest

the only other code it is throwing is the absolute manifold pressure. and it is saying (ECM?) The OBD is unable to pull any codes for the ECM. why is this?

Response From Loren Champlain Sr

Probably jumping ahead of ourselves here, but a MAP sensor can cause overfueling. Check the vacuum signal to the sensor. The MAP sensor looks at manifold vacuum. When you accelerate, the manifold vacuum drops, the MAP sees this and adds fuel thinking you are under load. If you have a vacuum leak or poor engine management, it will cause a loss of vacuum, causing the MAP to add fuel. The GM MAP sensors do go bad, but need more diagnostics prior to replacing it.

Response From Guest

Will the car even run if the Ecm is not working? i took it to the shop and the mechanic coulnt tell me anything cause it would respond to the dyno. hw said i need a new ECM and a new mem-cal. could that be?

Response From Hammer Time

All stored trouble codes are numbered. We need the specific numbers.

Response From Guest

The OBD will not tell me any trouble codes for the ECM. it wont even tell the dyno anything. Will the car even run if the ECM was bad?

Response From Hammer Time

Forget the dyno. That's useless.

To extract a trouble from the computer for diagnostic purposes, the Assembly Line Communication Link (ALDL) connector is used.
Ground terminals A and B with the ignition "ON" and engine not running. The system will enter the diagnostic mode. In this mode, the computer will display a 12, three consecutive times, by flashing the "CHECK ENGINE", "SERVICE ENGINE SOON" or "MALFUNCTION INDICATOR LAMP" or light. A 12 consists of one flash, a short pause, then two flashes in rapid succession.
After 12 is displayed, any stored trouble s will be displayed by flashing the "CHECK ENGINE", "SERVICE ENGINE SOON" or "MALFUNCTION INDICATOR LAMP" light. All s are displayed 3 times each then a 12 will repeat. In the diagnostic mode, the computer will also energize all computer controlled relays and solenoids.

Response From flgmtech1

I may be wrong, but what I am reading, is the Guest posting this question is using the off and warmer button on his A/C to bring up his OBD once it cycles through if no problems were found it starts with ECM? this means do9 you wish to neter the ECM parameters, for CODES, INPUTS, OUTPUTS, etc,, or if not you move on to BCM? RFA? HVAC? SIR? etc... he is not listing a code becuase it is not listing one, and, the ECM is communicating but it is waiting for commanded input.

Response From Hammer Time

That's possible. That's why I gave him the aldl method. The check engine light is coming on, there should be something there.

Response From flgmtech1

unless it is going by so quickly or a button is being pressed that is taking him past the DTC

Cadillac Seville trunk pops open

Question From Guest on Cadillac Seville trunk pops open

'98 Cadillac Seville STS has a problem with the trunk opening while driving. The spring on the latch seems to be loose, so do see if a local junkyard has this latch (but fearing another loose latch) is there a parts website or parts store that may carry this latch?

Response From Hammer Time Top Rated Answer

There is really no such thing as a "loose latch". If they lock at all, then it is locked solid unless released. The car uses an electric release and an electric motor that pulls the lid down that could be malfunctioning.

Response From Guest

Sorry not stated is this model STS has a power opener for the lid, but does not have the power lid closer

Response From Hammer Time

Your right but it's still a very complex circuit for the release.

When the rear compartment lid release switch is pressed, ground is applied on CKT 1447 (PNK/WHT) at terminal D6 connector 1 of the instrument panel integration module (1 PM). If the powertrain control module (PCM) is sending a message the 1PM will send a message via the class 2 data line to the rear interface module (RIM). The RIM applies ground to CKT 1344 (LT BLU), with the valet switch in the ACCESS position, voltage is applied from the ALDL fuse 4, through the TRK REL relay coil. The relay energizes, the contacts close and voltage is applied from the BODY fuse to the rear compartment lid release solenoid. The solenoid is connected to ground G402 via CKT 850 (BLK).

Question From silver10 on back up sensors and warning light on 2000 cadillac seville

Any advise on what to look for repair on backup sensors and warning light on mh 2000 cadillac seville(sts) 4.6 engine with 152000 .stopped working need some help please. Dealers in mexico dont know about cadillacs or repair shops thank you for your help.

Response From Discretesignals

Do the reverse lamps work?

Response From silver10 Top Rated Answer

Yes they do

Response From Discretesignals

1. Drive the vehicle forward at least 15 mph
2. Stop the vehicle
3. Turn off the ignition
4. Turn on the ignition, then shift into reverse within 5 seconds.
5 Watch the warning light panel. Should flash the one red and two yellow lights at the same time for 1.5 seconds and then turn off.
6. Keep watching the warning lights. They should stay off.

Does the system operate as it does in those steps?

Response From silver10

I tried all the steps in order, and no lights worked or lit up at all if there is another step i should follow let me know or what should i do next please thank you

Response From Discretesignals

You'll need a volt meter to check for power and ground to the rear object module.

The module is located in the truck mounted to the inside of the right rear quarter panel.

You'll need to make your checks with the volt meter connected to a known good ground while back probing the connector with the ignition turned on.

The module's connector needs to be plugged in and the ignition has to be on to make accurate measurements. Unbolt the module and flip it around to get better access to the back of the connector.
