Showing 3 out of 3 Posts
Question From Flt2828 on Cadillac CTS 2003 3.2l Throttle Body Assembly

Ist time mechanic wants advice on replacing my CTS Throttle Body Assembly. Do I need a dealers screwdriver to undo the four bolts. (Can't see down the tunnel) does anyone have access to the GM service manual pages on this? How about any grease/sealer around new seals? Any help will be greatly appreciated! Ford T

Response From Double J Top Rated Answer

You didn't mention why you're replacing the Throttle Body Assy but there is a TSB out
Figured I'd let you know about it in case it applies........

Subject:Intermittent No Power MIL With TPS TAC TCM DTCs Set - keywords PIINSI 3.2L acceleration check connector contamination display driveability DTC ECM engine hard harness hesitate hesitation idle #PIP3370A - (04/25/2007) Models:2003 Cadillac CTS

This PI was superseded to update part numbers. Please discard PIP3370.
The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.

Condition/Concern:

Concern on the 2003 Cadillac CTS of a lack of power, stalls or when pressing down on the accelerator pedal the vehicle will not accelerate.

This condition can be intermittent or have the MIL "On" with ECM, TPS, TCM and TAC DTCs with a reduction in engine power message displayed on the IPC.

Recommendation/Instructions:

The diagnostics may lead you to replace the TPS which is part of the throttle body assembly. The concern may not be with the throttle body assembly.

The concern may be with the engine harness connector and terminals to the throttle body assembly.

Before replacement of the throttle body assembly, check the engine harness connector and wire terminals to the throttle body assembly and replace as necessary.

Refer to SI Document ID # 303631, testing for intermittent and poor connections and SI Document # 303628, for testing for electrical intermittent.
Engine harness connector pigtail part numbers GM 15306420 or Saturn 15318094 are available.

Engine harness connector terminal part number (six are needed) 9628855 are also available and can be located in electrical terminal kit (Yazaki Tray 15 position 13).

Use self-sealing connectors to make the connection and do not solder the wires. Refer to SI Document ID # 303648, splicing copper wire using splice sleeves.
Throttle body assembly part number 09128412. Refer to SI Document ID # 799178, throttle body assembly replacement and SI document number 799179, for throttle body service.
Note: GM dealers must call a Saturn dealer to order part number 15318094, if the GM part number 15306420 is not available.
For additional information on the TAC system, refer to SI Document ID # 820892, for TAC system description of operation.
Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.

  2. Disconnect the air intake duct hoses from the throttle body.

  3. Disconnect the following from the throttle body:
  4. - The surge tank inlet hose - The throttle body heater hose - The fuel pressure regulator atmospheric vent tube

  5. Disconnect the throttle body electrical connector (2) from the throttle body (1).

  6. Remove the throttle body assembly mounting bolts.

  7. Remove the throttle body assembly from the following:
  8. - The intake plenum - The vacuum fittings

  9. Remove and discard the following:

  13. Fill the cooling system. Refer to Draining and Filling Cooling System in Engine Cooling.

Idle Learn
The engine control learns the idle position of the throttle body for correct operation. When the throttle body or ECM is replaced, this procedure must be performed to ensure correct idle operation. The engine idle may be unstable or a DTC may set if the idle position has not been learned.
Perform the following procedure in order to allow the ECM to learn the idle position:
  1. Ensure that the following conditions are met:
  2. • The vehicle speed is 0 mph.• The accelerator pedal angle is less than 14.9 percent.• The battery voltage is more than 10 volts.• The engine coolant temperature (ECT) is between 5-60°C (41-140°F).• The intake air temperature (IAT) is more than 5-60°C (41-140°F).
  3. Turn OFF the ignition for 30 seconds.
  4. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF for 1 minute.
  5. Turn OFF the ignition.
  6. Clear DTCs as necessary.

2003 Cadillac CTS engine vibrating very rough when i give it gas. More info inside.

Question From Tunix2 on 2003 Cadillac CTS engine vibrating very rough when i give it gas. More info inside.

2003 Cadillac CTS 3.2L 90,000 Miles. Standard Transmission.

I was coming home from work today and i was in second gear. All of the sudden my check engine light starts flashing and the engine starts vibrating pretty bad whenever i give it gas in any gear. After about 2 minutes the flashing stops but the motor still vibrates pretty bad when i give it gas. I parked it immediately. Its about 20 degrees out and dark so i cant really look under the hood but the motor smells and little weird. (i popped the hood and took a sniff not sure if it usually smells different).
Has this happened to anyone? I'm fearing the worst right now :/

Thanks in advance guys!

Response From Sidom

You're going to what to start off with pulling the codes and see what is being affected. Also you are going to want to get under the hood after it's cooled down and check all the fluids and make sure there isn't any leaks....

Response From Tunix2

cylindar 5 misfire. im going to change my spark plugs saturday and also the oil. hopefuly i wont have to replace the 1-3-5 coil pack.

Response From Sidom Top Rated Answer

Well with misfire it's good to start with the basic maintenance 1st. A lot of times that will solve some problems.....

When you took it to the shop, did you have it diagnosed or just get the codes pulled?

Response From Tunix2

Links to other forums are not allowed........

Response From Tunix2

Ok will do. It has a code reader built into the system all i have to do is push two buttons on my DIC and it will show me all the codes currently in the system. I dont know if they will show up when someone runs a scan with a OBD-II Code Reader because the check engine light is no longer on but they may come up who knows.

Im getting the car towed to a local shop tomorrow but if anyone else has had a similar problem with a car id appreciate the insight.

2003 Cadilac CTS Short in wire for wipers

Question From ozarkoutlaw on 2003 Cadilac CTS Short in wire for wipers

How to fix a short in the wire in steering column. When you hit a bump the wipers will come on until you hit a bump again. Doesn't do this everyday, just started last week. Is this something that should be taken to a expert mechanic our something that someone with very little experience could handle?
2003 Cadillac CTS v-6 127,000 miles

Response From Discretesignals

How did you determine it was a short in the steering column?

Response From ozarkoutlaw

Just assuming, because my superduty p/u developed a short in the steering column for the tow/haul switch which is the same setup as the wiper control

Response From Tom Greenleaf Top Rated Answer

Doubt it's a short or would probably blow a fuse. More likely connection or poor ground at the motor, the motor itself or a bunch of possibilities. Because something happened to a totally different vehicle doesn't mean squat.

Get it diagnosed and decide if you want to take it on or not. My guess if source was in the column just bumping the steering wheel would react as well so doubt the trouble is wires there,

Question From jamesg1551 on tail light blub

how do you change the rear tail light blub on a 2005 cadillac cts? no elec. problem. do you have to go in through the trunk or remove the whole lens? james

Response From Discretesignals Top Rated Answer

You have to take the lens out. The fasteners that hold the lens are inside the trunk when you pull the carpet back.

Response From Tom Greenleaf

I doubt there's a good listing on things like that. You look and just just know one by one wherever they are. Some up from under some from inside trunk and some a royal pita.

Why have you ruled out electrical problems so surely?

rpm gauge

Question From nick n on rpm gauge

2003 Cadillac CTS 6 cyl. 3.2 with 63000 miles. The rmp gauge is very sensative and will jump up and than down when driving when the gas is just taped, not sure if this is sign of trouble ahead or anything. Any help be be appreciated.

Response From slow_sprinter Top Rated Answer

How much does it jump when you say it jumps up and down? Several hundred? Several thousand? Does it seem like the engine matches its movement?

Response From nick n

ranges from hundreds and thousands depending how quick the peddle is released. engine seems to react when given and now the gas gauge is not reading correctly. Reads lower than whats in there and will correct itself when given about 5 minutes or turned on and off. Not sure if also there may be a shift problem and if so would this make the rpm gauge do this. dosnt seem to do it in neutral or park.

Response From Tom Greenleaf

Just a shot in the dark at this:

These cars are so teched out it's scary but with two reactions and the gas pedal making a difference I'm suspecting as a maybe that grounding for the dash is weak? !!

A harmless test would be to try adding ground from known ground of body to a frame piece of the dash via a common alligator clipped jumper wire. Don't be touching or jumping electrical things but rather just add ground to what should be anyway.

Thought comes from you saying the gas pedal changes things and that little bit might be adding some ground where it is weak and may be able to support extra grounding by itself just a little,

T

Response From Guest

just a few hundred but drops back right away and i mean just tap so dosnt give time for engine to react. does not do in neutral or park. Also just started now is the gas gauge is not showing true fuel in tank till car has been running for a while or if turned off and back on. Is there a insturment issue happening.
