Searching for 1995 Infiniti G20 Technical Service Repair Manual

Question From spidsparks on Searching for 1995 Infiniti G20 Technical Service Repair Manual

Year of vehicle : 1995
Make of vehicle : Infiniti (Nissan)
Model of vehicle : G20
Engine size : 2.0
Mileage/Kilometers : 170 K miles

After a frustrating conversation with Nissan Support, I am hoping perhaps a car junky out there might have knowledge where I can find a Technical Service Manual for my 1995 Infiniti G20. Nissan's customer service explained to me that they didn't have any on stock and were not able to educate either on when I could expect to get one. Very frustrating since the G20 has become a pet project of mine and I am trying to find a replacement hose (the one that connects the engine to the brakes drum). Would appreciate any help from fellow car junkies!

Thanks,
Sid

Response From Tom Greenleaf

Not sure what you mean by engine to brake drum. If you mean a rear brake hose I just found them as seen in part below at AutoZone's own site. Check others as needed for your needs. Shop where you wish. Just call or Google the parts store of choice or a dealer if you wish. Helps to be able to name the parts you want.

Come back if you need help from there with installation or parts names if you can describe just what you need and what it does - we'll try,

Hi Tom, Thanks for you help. I am not sure about the rear hose. Here's a picture of my G20 and the broken hose I am trying to replace:

    Response From Tom Greenleaf

OK! Now I get it - pics really help!

That appears to be a vacuum hose to the power brake booster - not an hydraulic part at all. Booster looks like a drum of sorts but not a brake drum like at the wheels.

Just take a copy of your pic to a dealer as this is unlikely to be an aftermarket part. It is special hose that is both "moulded" and can hold vacuum without collapsing.

You could fake it temporarily with extra long proper vacuum + fuel tolerant hose making loops to accommodate the curved ends - long story on how to do that and the right thing is getting the right part asap.

If (judgement call) this is in a spot with just one leak right there you might be able to cut it, plug it for now so engine runs and or get a good brass barbed splice and double clamps each end of splice with 100% stainless hose clamps.

YOU MUST BE SURE IT ISN'T RUBBING ON ANYTHING NO MATTER WHAT. NO SHARP RUBBING, OR HOT SPOTS.

Just what happened to this one anyway?

    T

Ps: This may have two different end I.D.s to make it more of a dealer part.

PsII: Plugged or leaking this will defeat power assist to the brakes! Engine won't run or run lousy with it leaking. Not advisable to drive the car w/o the power assist - they will work but not well or strong!

    Response From spidsparks

Thanks for your time Tom. I am not sure what happened but the vacuum hose broke into two somehow, perhaps because of the below zero freezing temperatures. I am going to go to the dealer tomorrow and see what they have to offer. Meanwhile, I found some free repair manuals. See post below!

2001 Nissan Pathinder 4wd, Rear Brake Shudder

Question From PathyMan on 2001 Nissan Pathinder 4wd, Rear Brake Shudder

    2001 Nissan Pathinder 4wd
    3.5L V6, 130,0000

During hard or high speed braking, I get a strong shudder from the rear end. Even when braking at slower speeds, it seems like the brakes grab then release as the wheels turn. I've pulled on the parking brake to verify it is coming from the back.

Longer story - was told by the garage I had a leaky wheel cylinder. Disassembled and verified. Decided to go ahead a change them on both sides, plus purchased new hardware (i.e. springs), purchased new drums, and installed. Initial test drive seemed ok.

Went on the highway the following week and immediately noticed the shudder in the rear when braking at high speeds. Suspected out of round drums. Disassembled, cleaned reinstalled and tried again. Same thing. Sent drums back to retailer and purchased OEM (Japanese) parts (first set were aftermarket). Installed and tested on highway - same thing.

I'm not sure where to go next. Seems unlikely I got 2 consecutive out of round drums. Could it be the wheel cylinders? Should I have replaced the shoes?

    Appreciate anyone's insight. Thx!

    Response From Hammer Time

Why are you assuming it's the rear at all? It is rare for the rear to cause pullsation and even rarer when it's drum brakes.

    Response From Discretesignals

If your feeling the brake shudder when yanking the e brake it has to be something in the back..eh? Your not yanking the e brake at the same time your hitting the foot brake?

Might want to measure the out of round on those drums with a drum micrometer just to be sure. Max tolerance is .030mm.

Response From Hammer Time Top Rated Answer

I don't know about that. In 40 years I have never seen a brake drum cause a shudder. The just aren't strong enough and tend to give and flex. Mild surging maybe but the shudder is nearly always the front with drums in the rear.

    Response From PathyMan

    Thanks for the response.

I didn't assume it was the rear. I've only come to that conclusion because I've engaged the parking brake several times at varying speeds (with my foot off the brake) and can feel the back end shudder. It is very noticeable.

Wouldn't it be odd for a brand new drum to be out of round (twice)?

    Response From Hammer Time

It would be odd for it to happen even once.

    Response From Blulakr

Rear drum brakes can cause a shudder but it is pretty rare.

    I would...

Check for a bent or out of round axle hub.

Make sure the brakes aren't adjusted too tight and overheating. Make sure the shoes and hardware (return springs, adjuster etc) are installed correctly. Make sure the park brake releases fully.

If the park brake is applied forcefully when the drum is hot that can distort the drum.

Rear Tire comes off of Car: 2012 Versa

Question From Versaa25 on Rear Tire comes off of Car: 2012 Versa

    Nissan Versa 2012 1.6L / Standard Shift
    70,000 Kms

I am seeking information as to how the rear tire (including the drum) can come completely off of the car.

Last week, I had my car serviced at an auto repair shop. I had the front and rear brakes replaced. On the front, new pads were installed. On the rear, new shoes, bearings and drums were installed.

Here is a brief description of the incident. Within a span of 30 seconds the following occurred:
    1) ABS Light came on;
    2) The steering wheel began to shake violently;
    3) Depressed brake to slow down when;
    4) The TIRE, while still attached to the drum came off of the car and went flying 150meters out into the woods.
    5) When the car stopped, I examined the rear of the car where I found the rear brake completely exposed. The main nut is visable and firmly holding the bearing behind it.

Could anyone help me solve this problem? How is a tire able to come completely off of the car like this?

    Response From Discretesignals

You definitely need to take it back to the shop that did the repair. They should fix that for free and any other damage done since they were the last ones to have their hands on it.

    Response From Versaa25

    Discovered the problem.

After the bearing had been pressed inside the drum. The mechanic did finish the job by putting the c-clip that holds the bearing in. They were left in the old drums.

Very disastrous, as the c-clip is the only thing holding the drum onto the bearing.

Response From Hammer Time Top Rated Answer

Since it's a brake drum, you have to be talking about the rear. It means that the wheel bearings and lock nut were not installed properly.

    Response From Tom Greenleaf

Yup - bad news. That would happen 90% +/- to left rear tire not right - am I correct? Doesn't matter the car wasn't finished when you got it back somehow,
