2000 BMW 540I Code P1475

Question From comnavguy on 2000 BMW 540I Code P1475

This BMW 540i V8 with 122,000 miles set P1475 a few weeks back. The book says it is the "Leak Diagnosis Pump". What the heck is that and where is it on the car?

Response From Hammer Time Top Rated Answer

It's usually called a "leak detection pump". It's used to pressurize the fuel tank system to self test it for EVAP leaks.

It's in the left rear wheel well

Question From Guest on bmw540i

1995 540i bmw won't start. Give it starter fluid into throttle body runs til fuel is gone, pulled gas lines no fuel apparent please help

Response From Tom Greenleaf Top Rated Answer

Do you hear a fuel pump buzzing? If not check fuses and relays for it. If it does buzz you should take a pressure reading at the fuel rail,

Radio Code BMW 1995 540i

Question From johnbouf123 on Radio Code BMW 1995 540i

Hi,
I'm new at this but hope someone can help?? I let the battery run down over the cold Canadian winter on my 1995 BMW 540i now the radio will not work with entering a new code. I need to remove the radio to get the code but do not know how. Also I don't even know how to set the code in either duhhh!! I bought the vehicle used and no manuals came with it. Looking for manuals to but have had no success. Did buy one on Ebay but it turned out to be for a 97 (aaah!!) Can anyone help sure would appreciate it. thanks John b Kamloops BC Canada

Response From kenray

Usually you can get the code for your radio with the vin number from the car. Unless of course the radio has been replaced.

Response From Hammer Time

I don't believe your going to get the code that way. you will get the radio serial number and bring that to the dealer and they will get you the code after you prove ownership. They may charge you for that though.

Response From johnbouf123

Thanks I figured that my problem though..............is..........I need to remove the radio to get the serial number off the radio chassis and that is where I am hooped. I don't have any type of manuals and am clueless as to how to remove the radio to get the serial #. Also if anyone knows where to get an owner's or driver's manual for a 1995 BMW 540i I would love to hear from you. I have searched the net and did buy one on Eba7($60.00) and it turned out to be for a 1996 (totally different). Anyone want a real good complete 1996 BMW 540i owner's package I have one cheaper than cheap even has a nice leather bookd cover!!! Thanks again

Response From Hammer Time

It requires special release tools

Response From johnbouf123

Hey thanks that was quick, one more question? Apparently the "special release tools" are designed to plug into the four holes at the same time am I right? So could I not fashion a coat hanger or something similar to do the same? Thanks again want a 1996 BMW manual lol!!

Response From Hammer Time

It might work if they are the right thickness.

Response From johnbouf123

Hey thanks for all your help. I actually did a visual (a more thorough one this time) inspection and it appears on each side of the radio there is a little (1/2 " X 1/2") tab. Looks like it should clip out and I am thinking there will be either a screw )hopefully) or a pinhole. !!!!!! Can't wait till tomorrow I miss my sound system. Not at all the same.

Thanks again for your help if nothing else you really got me motivated.!! Also noticed a little "squeak" in my right rear wheel, kinda goes away when I brake, Guess that should tell me something eh>> I can be so dumb sometimes lol. HAGO!!

Response From re-tired Top Rated Answer

Like HT has stated , you need the special tool to remove radio. There is no other clip or hole to do it. I have been able to use clotheshanger wire bent into a "U" and remove my radio on my lincoln .(same release system). You may have to play with it a bit to get just right.

which is more likely???????!!!!

Question From Guest on which is more likely???????!!!!

Can a faulty or broken water pump on a ’94 bmw 540i cause the radiator fan to explode and destroy the fan, fan-housing, radiator and bearing? THe shop where i took my said this is what happened. I just had the rad replaced last month and yesterday noticed the fan hitting the housing. I took the car in and when they started it the fan exploded into the housing destroying it and the rad. I believe the reverse is true: that the fan hitting the housing blew apart into the rad and the force of the fan/housing threw off the bearing and blew the water pump.

which Scenario is more likely

Response From Tom Greenleaf Top Rated Answer

Belt driven water pumps with fan on them can let go and fan causes unknown amount of damage. If it uses a fan clutch that can do it also. There should have been some wild symptoms - noise, leaks but possible that bearing(s) gave out quickly losing control of the fan and whatever is in it's way gets damaged including it,

T

Ps: You noticed the fan hitting and should have investigated right then. Fans themselves rarely are the cause....
