96 BMW 328i lost radio code

Question From seraksocial on 96 BMW 328i lost radio code

Greetings all,

The car is a '96 BMW 328i. The problem is with the audio (stereo, cd, player etc). Out of nowhere the stereo dies and now it's asking for a code, but I don't have the owner's manual (assuming that that's where it comes from). How do I move forward?

EDIT: I've made a potential discovery in the last five minutes.. it looks like I could get this radio code from the dealer by supplying them with the VIN number. Is that right?

I'm a dumb blonde when it comes to removing things. It's doable, but at last resort.

Thanks all,
Serak

Response From kenray Top Rated Answer

If it is the original radio, you should definitely be able to get the code using the vin number.

Car Accident Vehicle

Question From daria on Car Accident Vehicle

My husband's car (BMW328i) was in an accident and the front right area was crushed, but the rest of the hood was intact, and the back area and side panel of the car were also damaged.

Does $15,000 sound like alot for the amount that the autobody shop is charging just to take apart the car?

Thanks!

Response From re-tired

Now you why very few mechanics drive beamers ,besides the price. Any shop willing and able to work on high end cars will expect pay consummate to it. I would still try to get at least 3 est. Does sound a bit high but I've never took a bmw apart.

Response From Tom Greenleaf Top Rated Answer

Daria - Did you mean $15,000 just to "take it apart?" How much to put it back together if so?

I think you must have meant the quote for the full repair which will be sky high for a BMW. If you have insurance involved they should help in adjusting to the appropriate costs of the repair or declare it a total loss depending on age and overall condition of the vehicle,

Response From Sidom

I'm not a bodyman but any body work on any car always seems to be expensive....
I'm not knocking the trade, with the experience, tools and everything else required, they earn their money, but if you even look at a car wrong it's $700 to fix.......

From your description, it sounds like a lot of damage was done. Factor in it's Beamer, (those are expensive to work on) and to do the job correctly with quality parts, that est sounds like they are in the ballpark.........

BMW Center Console Switch

Question From Guest on BMW Center Console Switch

I recently purchased a 2000 BMW 328i with a 2.8L engine. It is in excellent condition with a new rebuilt engine.
The only thing which I can find wrong is the center console combination switches for the hazard warning flashers and the door lock switch. I am assuming that the problem is the switch itself because neither of the switches will "click" when you press them. The switch itself is only $32 - cheap for a BMW !!

My problem is how do I disassemble the center console so that I can get at the switch area to replace it? Do I pry the parts of the center console off....are the parts snap in or do I need to locate screws to disassemble? I would appreciate any help from someone who has attempted something like this.

Response From tweety652

if this were my car i would greatly consider getting a manual for it. its the only way to get it done properly and would show you how with pics. these parts on the console may break and i would suspect to be expensive for your car. just buy the manual. it will pay for itself.

Response From Guest Top Rated Answer

Thanks for the purchase the manual suggestion. Neither Haynes or Chilton publish the manual for the 328i. The latest they go is to 1998 and I understand that the 1998 model differs considerably from the 2000.
