Question From mrc55 on 1997 Nissan 200SX sec 2.0 can't remove dr side cv axle

1997 Nissan 200 SX sec, 99,000 miles
needs axle replacement and I am not able to get the drivers side axle out. The passenger side slid right out, but the driver's side to stuck. Any ideas? Downloaded a manual but the drive train/suspension chapter won't open on my computer.
Thanks!

Response From Hammer Time

It is locked in and has to be pried out with a very large pry bar.

Response From mrc55

Thank you! That worked. Now we are working on the lower ball joint. Top clip is off but ball joint not moving. Any ideas about how to get this out?

Response From Hammer Time

That may not come apart easily. Can't you remove the top bolts on the strut instead?

Response From mrc55

It is only connected to the lower control arm.

Response From Hammer Time

No, the top of the knuckle is bolted to the strut.

Thank you!! We got it! Here's hoping the installation is easier :)

Response From Hammer Time

Make sure it's fully seated and locked into the trans.

Response From mrc55

I was afraid you might say something like that :) Ok, thanks!!

Question From Guest on 1997 nissan maxima repair

1997 nissan maxima, repair shop replaced axle shaft assembly, shop tried 7 different axles before the found the "right one", after eighth try, I drove away and went back to the repair shop stating something was wrong. Test drove and mechanic thought there was something wrong but should be ok to drive. Drove care for a day and 1/2 before returning car. Now the car needs wheel bearing assembly for another 630.00, are these two items related. I feel like I am incurring another cost because it wasn't fixed right the first time. Thanks for advise.

This requires a press to replace and bearing is not really related to the driveshaft. Pars should be less than $100 bucks list so the extra $530 seems a bit much! It would require a front end alignment after removing a whole steering knuckle which is part of the procedure. I'd be sure it need this bearing which it could and find a better price - that's plain too high IMO,

Transaxle Removal - Nissan Quest

Question From jeff512 on Transaxle Removal - Nissan Quest

'99 Nissan Quest
I need to replace the driver side (left) transaxle because of roughness and noise. The left side is held in place with a circular clip the service manual that i am using says to tap out the transaxle through the hole for the right side axle. I would prefer to not remove the right side transaxle. Does anyone know if this is possible and if so how or do i just need to suck it up and remove the right side so that i can tap out the left?

For what it is worth, i replaced both axles about 6 months ago and i now suspect that the drivers side has gone bad since it is slinging grease out of the boot seal.

Thanks for the help,
Jeff

Response From jeff512 Top Rated Answer

I ended up using a small crowbar and a block of wood to release the circular clip. Work great.
