2003 ford expedition, 4.6L, auto, the battery light is on and it gives check charging system message when accelerating, as well as very low or no idle, changed alternator, and battery with no improvement, now vehicle cranks strong but wont start, and now has lost fuel pressure (no pressure), have checked the inputs at pcm for fuel pump and charging they are getting signal to pcm and out put for starter relay has power , HELP

Fuel pump isn't an input for the PCM. The PCM controls the fuel pump relay which is used to complete the circuit to the fuel pump.

Worthless to check the charging system if you can get the engine to start and run.

When you installed this alternator did you have any mishaps such as shorting the bat cable cause you forgot to disconnect the battery or reversing battery connections somehow? Do you have a code reader to see if you can access the PCM and retrieve codes?

I understand fuel pump not input.I was generalizing my pinpoint tests, yes I have a scanner, no codes present active or previous, vehicle ran for a couple days . Had alternator tested on vehicle tested good ,replaced battery, light never went out. Check charging message never went out, alternator putting out 14.3 volts, loss of fuel pressure new symptoms, please understand I'm a pro mechanic, looking for assistance with an issue I have not encountered previously, starting to believe it's the central fuse relay panel

    ISSUE:

    Some 2003-2004 Expedition/Navigator vehicles may exhibit the following symptoms in any combination:
  • Intermittent Driveability Concerns
  • Intermittent Flickering Of The Charging System Warning Indicator
  • Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) On With DTC's P0620 And/Or P0320 In Memory

  • These conditions may be caused either by chafing or corrosion of the 14305 harness, or an interaction of the PCM with the charging system. ACTION:
    Check the vehicle build date to select the appropriate Service Procedure.SERVICE PROCEDURE


    Vehicles built before 4/2/04: Reprogram PCM to the latest calibration using WDS release B32.2 or higher, and replace the 14305 harness. Apply a very light coat of electrical grease (F8AZ-19G208-AA) on the male pins of the alternator/regulator (C102A connection), and the pins of C192A on the 14305 harness (see Note).
    Replace the 14305 harness as follows:
  • Expedition built 3/18/02 - 1/31/03: 2L1Z-14305-AB
  • Expedition built after 2/1/03: 3L1Z-14305-AB

    Insanely new to working on cars, very little knowledge, my ride is a 2000 eddie bauer edition ford expedition 5.4liter engine.

    I triggered the problem to my alternator since my car ran just the battery never charged, I got it to ride buy using a battery charger and going where I needed to go, well what happened was my dad messed around with my voltage regulator because he thought that might be the problem, now the car wont turn over at all even with the charged battery, it wont even click or do anything, all the gauges and lights work fine it seems, also, the voltage regular is hooked up properly but its not grounded (screwed) into the metal of the car its kind of hanging there at the moment, could that be causing problems? I was thinking maybe it needs to be grounded but im not sure, like I said extremely ignorant when it comes to cars. If it would start with the charged battery I would just go buy an alternator, but im thinking something else is wrong now? thank you

    ok I am making a bunch of progress , I grounded the solenoid and everything now everythings cool except that its not getting no gas to the engine! the truck has been sitting for two years so im thinking somethings clogged up somewhere.... when I manually pour gas in the compressor it runs for a little bit but only because im feeding it manually

    I doubt anything is clogged. It's most likely a bad fuel pump but you will need to test for power arriving at the pump. Also check the Inertia switch at the passenger floorboard/kick panel.

    This may be irrelevent,because I don't know if your vehicle is standard or auto,however,I used to own a kia rio(auto) and it had a problem with the gear shift,when i tried to turn it on i could get dim lights and music and stuff but the car just didnt start.I found out later on that the car,for lack of better words,didnt realize it was in park,so I ended up having to slam the gear shift into park in order to turn it on.again,like I said it could be irrelevent,but a possibility?

    What you need is some accurate testing starting with the battery. If the battery tests good, then you have to start checking all the cable connections and then the starter.
