Remanufactured DENSO alternators go through a grueling process. Stators and rectifiers are tested to 300 volts, while rotors are submitted to 600 volts, all to ensure reliable performance. Rotor slip rings are buffed to an 8 micron surface finish, with runout limited to 20 microns, minimizing brush wear and abrasion. Bearings are validated to OE standards and loaded with premium OE standard lubricants. New or remanufactured, a DENSO alternator is a quality component. Offered in versions from 40 to 160 amperes and beyond for hundreds of specific vehicle applications, all alternators meet DENSO's rigorous First Time Fit standards. Contemporary cars employ dozens of sophisticated electronic systems from bumper to bumper, placing heavy demands on the charging system. The alternator is no place to cut corners. DENSO First Time Fit alternators meet or exceed all manufacturer standards, mount properly with a minimum of installation issues, and provide years of reliable service. Features. Premium cores and precise OE assembly benchmarks; Design to meet the grueling heat and electrical requirements; First Time Fit provides perfect mounting with no belt/pulley alignment issues; Benefits. Service professionals preferred DENSO's alternators for a trouble free solution; OE quality fit, appearance, and durability; Full compatibility with sensitive electronics systems; Compact and lightweight design

Question From Knekias on 97 Dodge Intrepid starts and won't start

1997 Dodge Intrepid 3.3 with 182,000 miles

I have a 1997 Dodge Intrepid. In late October, after running fine, I parked it. I came out to start it up and it cranked but wouldn't turn over. Two hours later it started and ran fine. It has been happening several times a week since. Starts and runs. Go to the store. Starts and runs again. Go home. Cranks but won't turn over. Two - three hours later it starts and runs fine. I've tested the fuel pump, alternator, water pump and all came out fine. I replaced the ignition coil/module, the battery, the spark plugs and wires, the air filter. My mechanic says when it dies I have to call him and he'll test it while it isn't starting. But he never makes it in time. It is driving me crazy!

Response From Loren Champlain Sr Top Rated Answer

Being a Chrysler product (and I own two) with those symptoms, I'd be highly suspicious of the crank sensor. Don't always (actually seldom) set a DTC. But, he's right, he'll need to get it to act up to confirm.

Where do I attach engine lifting fixture to on 2.7L engine from to remove from 2000 Dodge Intrepid?

Question From Guest on Where do I attach engine lifting fixture to on 2.7L engine from to remove from 2000 Dodge Intrepid?

I'm removing a 2.7 from my 2000 Dodge Intrepid. The instructions show the location where to attach the 8342 engine lifting fixture. I want to confirm the locations - on the front it's a hole that takes a 10mm bolt and on the rear it's actually the hole where the top 10mm bolt goes to hold the EGR value on. Is it ok to use the EGR bolts to attach the engine lift or should I buy separate ones? They seem too small a bolt to hold the weight of the engine.
Also, since I can't find a 8342, do you suggest any alternatives? I found a lifing fixture at AutoZone that is similar, except the it has 2 chains attached to the top bar instead of 2 vertical bars attached to the top bar.

Question From madintrepidowner on 2002 Dodge Intrepid Wont Start

2002 Dodge Intrepid 2.7 Liter V6 125,674 Miles

Hi my vehicle has been a major pain these last few weeks. About a few weeks back my vehicle would not start and would only make a clicking noise when the ignition was turned on. I was told it was either a bad battery or starter solenoid so I had them both tested at OReilly's and was told the starter so I bought a brand new starter and solenoid and installed it, still nothing but a clicking sound. Stumped I took it to Big O Tires yesterday to have them look at my car and they told me it was my battery so I had a new one put in by them and it seemed to fix the problem my car started every time I went to fire it up. That is until this morning when I went to start it I turned the ignition and there was no sound at all, my radio and dash lights work just fine. What could be the problem?? I highly doubt my ignition switch went bad in one day and it could be my alternator thats causing the problem or just a dead battery I have no idea. Does anyone have any legitimate answers?

Response From Sidom

Get the battery retested.....New ones do go bad, also make sure cables are very clean. Dirty cables could cause this problem.
If all that is good then you want to get the charging system checked to make sure it's charging & also check to make sure there isn't a draw on the system, draining the battery while the car sits...

Response From madintrepidowner

Okay thanks! I'm definitely going to take it back in to Big O tomorrow to have them fix the problem. From the information I gave you an alternator doesn't sound like the problem correct? Just ruling out some possibilities.

Without being able to be there you really can't tell.....It could really be any one of the things I mentioned.

If you have a volt meter, you could do a quick test to see if it's charging....Just hook up the meter leads to the jump terminals on the engine (or battery terminals if you can get to them) and with the engine running, the voltage should be in the 14v range if it's charging. If it's in the 12v range while running, then that would be a problem...

I don't have a volt meter but I will definitely invest in one for the future and thanks for the help!

engine stalls

Question From woodfiend on engine stalls

I have a 2000 Dodge Intrepid 2.7l. When running, it will just stall, no hesitation, stumbling, etc. It throws no dtc codes, or pending codes. It did have a bad alternator which damaged the battery, both have been replaced. After stalling it is very difficult to restart (several minutes of cranking).

Response From Discretesignals Top Rated Answer

When it doesn't want to start you need to do some testing.

96 Dodge Intrepid AC belt

Question From pipedreams on 96 Dodge Intrepid AC belt

I need to replace the AC belt on a friends intrepid, but I can't see where or how it adjusts? The belt goes from the pully to the compressor down to what LOOKS like what might be a tensioner...but I can't see how to loosen it to get the belt on?

Suggestions?

Thanks!

Response From Tom Greenleaf

I'll give this a shot. Hard without seeing it and it's not that hard to do. I think it uses a spring loaded tentioner pulley that you retract buy wrench, or socket or some a square hole that may hold a standard flex bar without the socket. If you see a threaded bolt by the front at the front by the alternator it's NOT self tentioned and you would then loosen that up. There should be a diagram for how to string the new belt in on a sticker under the hood.

If the retractable tentioner type just be careful of the tool(s) used that they don't hit anything important with the old belt off!

Tricks are to use a bungee cord if alone to hold the new belt or a helper if fussy till it's back on. Double check that it is exactly in the right track on the pulleys or you will see it fly off in a minute and need yet another or worse it break something else. If no routing diagram take a picture before you start. The routing is nasty to figure out and the job should be able to do in minutes, Good luck, T

I think we're talking about different belts. The main belt that runs the alternator is a serpentine belt that has a tensioner..........that one has to come off to put the Compressor belt on.The compressor has it's own, non serpentine belt that only runs between the front pully, the compress or and that "unknown" pulley below it. It looks like an idler pully, ecept it's the only place that belt could be tensioned..........the compressor can't move...and of course the front pully can't either.............I just can't see any way to move that bottom......tensioner/pully........??

Response From Tom Greenleaf

Sorry - This is a case where my not seeing it is screwing me up. I really thought almost all cars used just one belt by 1996 but never say never. Dan here may come by and be able to post a diagram showing it and I can't with any software I have, Hang in there, T

Response From pipedreams

Many thanks! I thought the same thing myself.........I have a 96 Ram V10 and it has one belt for everything.....If everything else with the A/C didn't look factory I would think this was aftermarket, but it's not.......just a strange transition time maybe........
