i just recently replaced my shot alternator and battery 2 weeks ago but 2 days ago while I was driving around i smelled a burning smell come through my ac on and off for about and hour or so. it went away for about 30 mins after and thats when My battery light came on. Im trying to fix it and diagnose it myself before I let the dealership rob me again lol

Year, make, mode, and engine size? Have you inspected the work you did? Check the wiring and cables at the alternator. Make sure nothing is grounding out. You might want to disconnect your battery until you find the problem. You don't want your vehicle burning to the ground.

i just had this with one of my trucks if you have added any thing like lights, radio you may be pulling more amps than your alternator is rated for or you could have a short most cars seam to run at the max amprige of the factory alternators or at least that's what i found in my study's

The famed slant six and if you wanted a race car get the 318.

They were considered small cars back then but put one beside a new full size car and see for yourself. They held six passengers and were VERY user friendly.

Some of the memories and compiments for these cars include.....

Easy to service

Straight glass for side windows which only took a turn or two

Tortion bar front suspension

Big trunk for a smaller car

Adjustable solid lifters so you could quiet it down for another million miles

An exhaust sytstem that could be replaced for the cost of a couple lattes and with pliers!

Brushes in the alternator that could be replace for dirt without even taking it out -- Not kidding

Real bumpers! OK you shouldn't bump things

VENT WINDOWS!!!!

Drip edges -- I think they should make car designers get in a car they made in the rain!

I remember those cars Tom. When I was in high school back in the early 80's one of my friend's had one. I had to adjust the carb on that about once every 6 months and replace the float every 2 years. But, you couldn't kill those cars if you tried. He retired it at about 250000 miles because the body had given up. If it didn't rot out he'd probably still have it today. What memories. Let's not forget the 75 Dodge Charger. That was my ride in high school. I had a 360 in that baby. What a boat. I used to smoke all the Chrysler Cordobas in that. Yeah, Mopar was the way to go in the late 70's thru the 80's. That's probably why they stopped making them. They didn't like the idea of cars lasting that long. Now you can't even get a car with a decent transmission. Like I always say at the shop "They're all s**tboxes, that's why they're here".

now days everythings about money. it's sad though. all those good old cars that last forever. these ones today wont last 10 years. only reason you got to buy a new one and it makes more money for the dealers and the auto makers. and then theres when ever they mess up the garages get them or the dealers get them and fix them so you should be alright for maybe 5,000 miles and then its got to be fixed again. i have an 87 toyota tercel that has 264,000 miles on the od. it's had a new head gasket and maybe a few othere minor parts fixed on it and it finaly gave out. hole in the block. but all i got to do is hook it up to a batery and it will crank right up. i dont want a car above a 89. give me a carb any day. and i'll be alright. and me being only 25 i can easily say though i miss the 60's.

i have a customers car in my shop getting ready to be painted and im getting pissed of cause i can't move the car it wont crank and its in my way of other cars that needs work im thinking it could be a electrical promblem cause the car is trying to crank when you turn the key but it just barely turns over. the battery is NEW like only a couple hours old, but when trying to crank it, it seems like the battery is dead like its not getting any power cause it just barely turns over. So when this happen my first assumption was to take it to autozone to get charged but autozone tested it 1st and said its not low, full of water, and its still fully charged. So i bought new battery cable screws and change them out hoping to get a better connection still wont crank (side post battery by the way) So then we tried jumping it off. it was hooked to a dodge charger and still wouldn't crank then connected it to a tow truck and still wont crank. I've even tried hitting the starter with a pole and still nothing. I then took the alternator off and took it to be tested and it was good. So i've lost a half of days work messing with this car so if you know what the problem could be please let me know!!

Well as long as it's turning over, that means the trigger wire is working. There's only a few things it could be, bad battery, cables or starter. You've had the battery tested. Sounds like you're a bodyshop so I'm guess you don't have the equipment to do a starter draw test. If one of the guys has a voltmeter they could do a voltage drop test on the cables to make sure they are good.. One indication of a starter drawing too many amps is the cable will get really hot & limp while cranking due to the excessive amps flowing thru the cables...............
