rear noise in 2004 Kia Sedona

Question From jsslyak on rear noise in 2004 Kia Sedona

I have a 6 cylinder 2004 Kia Sedona, over 100,000 miles...recent history, the ac has had problems staying cold, a local mechanic replaced the compressor but the air is still alternating between cold and luke cool, the dash lights weren't working after I picked up the vehicle but the next day they were, the front brake rotors were turned (not sure if the back brakes were, will have to check on Mon. and don't remember if brake pads were replaced) air filter and 2 belts were replaced.

After driving the van for 90 minutes with a 5x8 Uhaul trailer which was not heavily packed and did so a week earlier with no problem, BEFORE the AC compressor and other work was done, there was a high pitched whistle, almost like a horn sound, coming from the rear of the vehicle even after the van was turned off and the key was out of the ignition. This continued for almost 15 minutes, it stopped briefly, continued briefly, the stopped. After unloading, the vehicle sat for 4 hours, then drove the 90 minutes on the return and did not hear the whistle again.

A friend in the group suggested that it might be a relay switch for the fuel pump? I have a long trip coming up at the end of the week and not sure if the van should be driven long distance. There is a Kia dealer 45 minutes away and when consulting the mechanic this a.m., he could only suggest bringing it to the shop for a computer diagnostic "exam".

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Lynda :(

Noises are hard to diagnose without actually hearing them. If the fuel pump was staying on for some reason, you could remove the gas cap and stick your ear near the filler tube. You would be able to tell if the pump in the tank was running.

If this has rear a/c and the noise was occurring, sitting in the rear of the vehicle do you hear the noise coming from the rear panel on the passenger side?

If you could video the noise or maybe record the sound of it and post the link, that might give you some better results.
