AC condenser fan retrofit

Question From 123 on AC condenser fan retrofit

It's almost midnight, and the temperature outside is 38°C (100°F) at the moment. Basically, it's starting to get really hot and it isn't uncommon to see temperatures over 50°C (122°F) during the day.

I try to keep my AC condenser as clean as possible, despite the dust, and pressure rinse it once every two weeks or so. But I'm wanting to boost my air conditioning's cooling ability on the Pontiac GTO a bit further by installing a condenser fan in front of the condenser.

It will be a big help when you're stuck in bumper to bumper traffic at noon. I'm just wondering if anybody's retro fitted this on any vehicle before, especially if it was a Pontiac GTO. I'm aiming for a factory-like installation as much as possible. I assume a relay will be required for this modification? How would one go about wiring it so that the fan only operates when the air conditioning's on?

Thanks!

P.s. What would be more beneficial, one 14" fan or two 9" fans?

Response From Hammer Time

This is only going to help if you have inadequate air flow across the condenser now. If you already have a good fan, it isn't going to help and I'm betting it's got sufficient fan now.

Are you getting a substantial duct temp rise when you slow down now?

So you're telling me that Wangsu Inc in Los Angeles has the only Grand Marquis with a Chevrolet engine that has ever existed.

You are busted and you are banned. Please feel free to tell your spammer friends that this site doesn't tolerate your crap and all mods can see your IP address.

This is 123

Banned??? Why? Because i mistakenly said Grand Marquis instead of GTO?? I'd already edited it! Isn't that why the edit function is there for? On what basis was it decided to ban me? Surely it can't be because my post is from LA. That would be retarded! It can't be because i said Grand Marquis (a car i usually drive) instead of GTO (which i immediately edited), that would be stupid!

And how was it decided that i am a spammer? The following is Wikipedia's description of spamming:
"Electronic spamming is the use of electronic messaging systems to send unsolicited bulk messages (spam), especially advertising, indiscriminately."

How do i fit the above description? I am clearly not advertising or promoting anything! The post clearly looks like a legitimate problem without any alterior motives.

Id been online searching for information and a forum to post this issue in for HOURS before coming across your website and deciding that it was the best place to sign up to and ask in.
And if where i am posting from is so important then it is Kuwait. My IP is probably showing LA cz that is where my browser's server is probably located. I am using UC browser mini on my android. Why don't you look it up.

Anyway, thanks for your hospitality. I will look for an answer somewhere else. Feel free to ban this account as well.

Response From Hammer Time

123,
You are correct that you haven't done anything wrong and your question seems legitimate at this time. The fact that you are using a proxy server is suspicious but I will give you the benefit of the doubt and reinstate your original user name. I am however disabling the second user account that you created as we don't allow multiple accounts.

123 LETS START OVER -

tell year of vehicle which engine.... anything you can add.

Adding elec fans to a GM is a well documented swap.
BUT getting a oider GTO to cool that will take tweaking... thats why specific ie eng, year is so important.

Response From Hammer Time

Kev, this is not an old GTO. It's a 2004 and it doesn't have a cooling problem, he is trying to make the AC cooler on a car that already has an electric fan.

Response From kev2

my bad - thought was in a different direction.
evacuate - weigh - recharge to spec and advise.

PS - is vehicle STOCK - 100% GM parts and as delivered?

Response From Hammer Time

I kinda doubt this guy will come back anyway.

Response From Discretesignals

Wait a minute I saw Grand Marquis and now I see Pontiac GTO..which is it?

It's almost midnight, and the temperature outside is 38°C (100°F) at the moment. Basically, it's starting to get really hot and it isn't uncommon to see temperatures over 50°C (122°F) during the day.I try to keep my AC condenser as clean as possible, despite the dust, and pressure rinse it once every two weeks or so. But I'm wanting to boost my air conditioning's cooling ability on the Grand Marquis a bit further by installing a condenser fan in front of the condenser and behind the grille. My Montero came with this as standard from the factory, and it really helps when you're stuck in bumper to bumper traffic at noon. I'm hoping this will also help the ATF and PSF cooler mounted directly behind the AC condenser as well.I'm just wondering if anybody's retro fitted this on any vehicle before, especially if it was a Panther platform vehicle. I'm aiming for a factory-like installation as much as possible, and would like to make use of connectors as opposed to hard wiring things together. I assume a relay will be required for this modification? How would one go about wiring it so that the fan only operates when the air conditioning's on?Thanks!
