Question From toolman0007 on 02 isuzu trooper 4WD switch

I have a none working four wheel drive unit on this 02 isuzu trooper looking for info on which wires are input and out put on the 4 wheel drive switch that's on the right side of transmission.

Response From kev2

4wd switch total 4 wires -am I on right diagram -- blu/wht is 12v fused the red/wht is to the 4wd module -
grn/red and red/grn is the bulb

Response From toolman0007

ok now that i have had time to check. blue and white- 12 volt is that a small blue with white dots and is the red and white a larger red wire with white stripe. just to confirm only blue and white wire going to switch and when checked barely lit up the test light. tested with key on in drive with four wheel switch on dash active

Response From toolman0007

well now that i have your info it's back to checking. it's my understanding the 4wd/sw or speed sensors are the most common parts that fail on this thing. thank you for the info. will be testing and getting back

Response From kev2

I think it has a vacuum actuator - thats where I would look,

Any way an 02 should generate some codes to make it easy

Response From toolman0007 Top Rated Answer

yes well from what i have read yes, the tod system should show codes. but there is nothing. yes I have already checked every thing at the differential have vacuum but no electric, that's why the 4w ds is being checked. although it sits on the very top of the trans and is not easy to get to, my idea of back probing in out the window. will just have to check it mid point on the harness.

Response From toolman0007

just a note I have a full layout of the system and the location of all items

Question From Guest on Service 4WD Light

sorry about the first posting. 2002 durango
I was removing the center instrument panel shroud, in doing so the connector for the 4wd switch came off and now I have a Service 4WD light that won't go out how do you reset?

much needed help

Response From DanD

If you’ve haven’t damaged anything and now have the system reconnected properly and it’s working; as in going into 4X4. The computer will turn the light off after the ignition has been cycled on and off 40 times and there are no other faults in the system. So just drive it and if everything is ok it’ll go out after you’ve driven the truck at least the 40 times.
If that’s not fast enough for you or you’re unsure that the system is functioning properly. You’ll have to have the truck scanned by someone with the proper scan tool that will access the system to turn the light off. Don’t sit there turning the keys on and off 40 times it may work to turn the light off but not likely.

I will give it a try and let you know.

Thank you very much

Response From DanD

You're more then welcome; hope things work out.

Now I have a slightly different problem. This last weekend my wife left the interior lights on and I had to get a new battery, after I installed the new battery and started the vehicle my service 4WD light is now out but the lights on the 4wd switch do not come on. I tried to put the vehicle into 4wd but it did not work, no lights on the switch, and no service 4wd light. Any new suggestions or theories behind this new phenomenon.

Thanks

Check all the fuses other then that you may need to have the system scanned to see if that will give you an avenue to head down?
