when you start the car, it runs rough, if you put it in gear it actully runs better. but when you are driving it runs really rough. it will attempt to start every time you crank it, but you have to keep pumping the gas or it will stall out.
What could it be?

Not sure - Check for vacuum leaks and if spraying carb cleaner at egr makes any idle changes it needs to be cleaned or replaced. Good luck, Tom Greenleaf
