Some of these are really easy. You didn't state the motor so I can't expound much. They may all be the same for that model but I couldn't know that. There are too many exceptions to guess.

In general, you just drain the coolant, remove the belt, remove bad water pump, clean gasket surfaces, install new pump, and refill coolant - checking a few times for level as there can and will be air purged. Good luck, Tom Greenleaf

If it’s the 2.4 lt engine then you’re in for the long haul on this job, because the timing chain actually drives the water pump.
I suggest that you find yourself a good repair manual, read and understand it before you begin. If you happen to miss time this engine you’ll bend every valve in the cylinder head the first time you try and start it.
Here’s a note from experience that will not be in any manual though, replace the timing chain, chain guides and get the updated timing chain hydraulic tensioner.
Even if you don’t see anything wrong with them, replace them. If you don’t the chain will rattle and make all kinds of noise. For some unknown reason they do not like being disturbed. Believe me I’ve tried and so far I haven’t gotten away with out replacing them.
If the engine is a 2.2Lt, it’s like what Tom said, just a walk in the park.
Dan.

I just had mine go out after 102,500 miles. Spoke with two GMC mechanics (separate dealer service shops.) The best advice is in the post above. For a 2.2Ltr engine, it's straight forward and easy. For the Twincam 2.4Ltr engine take it to Mr. Goodwrench ONLY. After $757.00 my car has never ran better!
